  1. Basically, young Democrats are not proud to be American, as old Republicans are all proud to be American.

I personally think it’s because of the blatant corruption, the stripping of human rights, and the transfer of wealth to the already wealthy.

Maybe it’s just because they wanted to go to college and actually get a good interesting job that helps people, and that’s getting to be impossible.

Maybe it’s because young Democrats are likely to live in big cities, and they interact with immigrants constantly, and aren’t afraid of them.

Maybe it’s because older Republicans are scared, because they’re being bombarded with propaganda about how their “culture” is being wiped out.

  2. Yeah it’s hard to be proud to be American when anyone with a brain and the ability to game theory realizes we’re less than 15 years from a civil war or societal collapse.

  3. > “I just never thought I’d see these numbers based upon where we were a decade ago. But that’s exactly where we are,” Enten said.

Harry Enten says this line at least twice a week. He said it last week about the “BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL”. “I never thought I’d see numbers shift like this!” should be his middle name.

  4. America was supposed to be a land of opportunity, freedom, and possibility for advancement or wealth. Instead, we are now the most recent example of the destructive forces of capitalism and racism. I’m not proud of that.

  5. I mean, the problem is that Trump and his MAGA goons have essentially redefined “patriotism” as “unwavering love and support for Donald Trump and the Republican party”, and anything other than that is being redefined as “un-American” and “radicalism”.

  6. Could it be young people look to Europe and see what functioning democracies and democratic socialist countries provide? And then realize it’s a better life than what the US offers?

It’s OK to admit the US is in decline and that these loudmouth “patriots” are a major reason why.

  7. I’m a middle-aged person on the blue side, and I’m deeply ashamed to admit that I’m American. I can’t even imagine how little the world thinks of us now.

  8. Democrats are stuck in fighting for maintaining the status quo while Republicans are deadset on dragging the US back to 75 years ago when everything favored rich white Christians.

Young people want leaders that they think are working for a better future. We don’t have many of those in Washington.

  9. The problem with Enten is that he is a CNN gimmick. They parse poll numbers into meaningless factoids just to fill air time. The polls reported in the source just say what the sentiment is but not why. The US is an international embarrassment under Trump, which might explain Democrat sentiment, and Republicans are indoctrinated sycophants, which might explain Republican sentiment.

  10. How could anyone by proud of ICE secret police kidnapping people from Home Depot parking lots and illegally expelling them to foreign war zones like South Sudan?

This is America, A plurality of the voting public wanted this whether they knew it or not.

    I wouldn’t be proud either

  11. It’s the 90% of Republicans that are proud to be an American served by a President who has a criminal record, should have been convicted of national security violations, election tampering and inciting a resurrection that astounds me. If those weren’t enough negative issues one would also add that the President has a public record of being a pig who boasts about defiling women, ripping off consumers and speaking with the grace of a four year old. Or maybe that he is turning the rest of the planet against America. Yeah, puff those chests out Republicans and start prepping Mount Rushmore for his ghoulish face.

  12. No generation except the boomers have seen America in anything but decline. In our lifetimes there’s been no reason to be proud of America.

  13. Growing up I was so blindly proud of my country. Being born in 1980’s, I witnessed 9/11 as a teenager and answered the call to my country when it came time. After serving in Iraq, voting for and seeing Obama get elected I couldn’t have been more proud and optimistic for this country.

Fast forward to today and I personally have never been more embarrassed, disappointed, demoralized, pessimistic, etc etc.

I’m not sure who in their goddamn mind would vote for Trump. It’s like a slow-moving shit train that they didn’t see coming. The first time I thought it was a joke that he got elected. I couldn’t believe it. The second time it just proved to me how fucking dumb my fellow americans are. (no, I do not capitalize america anymore)

  14. I was never “proud” to be an American, but I used to find many things I love about the US. Now, it’s just purely shame. I’m moving to Germany in a few weeks and will likely have to pretend I’m Canadian, tbh

  15. wild what gutting all the social safety nets that make us part of the developed world and the construction of concentration camps will do

  16. The “love it or leave it” crowd are going to love this while at the same time being to stupid to understand it.

  17. I was just at the Roller Derby world cup, an event that the USA has won every 4 years since its inception.

They didn’t attend the teams parade and instead held an American flag upside down and read out a statement that they do not represent the American government, or what the.USA has become, but they are here representing the people and communities and will not give up hoping and fighting for a better future for them.

If your own national team, that are the undisputed champions of the world are not proud to represent you then you have some serious issues.

  18. CNN doing a poll to show Democrats “hate” America. You watch, Trump will be quoting this within a couple of days.

  19. What the fuck do we have to be proud of? The dumbest among us are deciding the direction of the country, our officials are governing by spite rather than leaderships, and we’re learning that our constitution can be nullified simply by someone going “nah”.

  20. If it weren’t so toxic, the literal term “MAGA” makes more sense now than when it was created.

We need to make America great again…like before Trump got involved.

  21. Trump literally saying he hates all democrats. How are we supposed to feel about that. America is complicit in a genocide that’s murdering children, trying to start new wars in the Middle East, abducting and deporting citizens and bankrupting itself, just like Trump has done to his other legitimate businesses that aren’t his grift on America. You would have to be a real psychopath to be pro-America right now.

  22. A headline and a lead that don’t give me any idea what the story is about, other than a CNN data chief is surprised.

    Kind of useless.

  23. It’s not just a lack of pride; I have not been this fearful of my government in my lifetime, which includes the post 9/11 patriotic/anti immigrant furor.

  24. Wrong! “Passengers on a hijacked plane are more likely to be disappointed in the new destination of the plane”. Democrats want to be American. They don’t want to be MAGA. MAGA doesn’t want to be American. I’m 70. For 62 years we were all Americans. If McCain or Romney had won their elections we would all still be Americans. MAGA wants a king and they say it out loud. They refuse to understand the Constitution and their words prove it particularly Congressional appropriations and the authority of the judicial.

  25. I am a republican but voted for Harris as i am not so republican that I can’t see the truth. I am not proud to be an American and am hoping this nightmare ends soon. BTW I attended the No Kings rally in my city.

  26. Well, Americans voted for a guy who tried to overturn an election and we all saw it on television.

I’m embarrassed that we have so many proudly ignorant people these days.

I’m not saying every democratic policy is right and every republican one is wrong. I’m just saying no American should support someone who is just full of it, did a horrid job the first time around, then goes full treason and a bunch of dummies think, well it’s better then a women or someone who isn’t exciting to me.

Not to mention Trump doesn’t even try to act like a president or a president to every American. He likes red states and republicans and it’s clear that’s it. He has no empathy and it’s embarrassing that such a little man is the ruler of the free world.

We gave up on helping anyone with USAID being shut down, we gave up our soft power, they are happy to let people die if they can save some really rich people money on taxes.

So yeah, not a lot to be proud of. This isn’t even a D versus R thing. It’s a decent person versus a horrible con man thing.

  27. I just want to help people. We’re no longer helping people. We’re doing the opposite of helping people.

  28. An actual leader would look at data like this and wonder how to get Americans more proud of their country. The leader we have will look at data like this and see it as proof that Democrats should simply not exist.

  29. What is there to be proud of? Almost every other developed country has better standards of living than the US. We are so brainwashed in our country that we fight each other over issues that would benefit us all.

  30. Click-bait headline

I would say: Define patriotism !!

If whatever definition states ones country above self interest

My rebuttal would be: why are all the Jan 6th traitors free?!

  31. What’s going on is that Americans feel humiliated that we elected such an incompetent clown as our President who embarrassed us on a daily basis.

  32. You mean CNN being ran by a conservative for the past couple of years is shocked that the propaganda is effective?

  33. Someone should tell the CNN data chief that he played a major role in creating this.

  34. >Enten pointed to new survey data from Gallup which showed that just 36% of Democrats are now “extremely” or “very” proud to be American. It’s down from 80% in 2015, when former President Barack Obama was in office, he said.

I’m part of that 36%. I’m proud of those who still believe in American values and fight back against this fascist bullshit. I’m proud of those who haven’t decided to give up and say “yeah the US is toast, there’s not even gonna be an election next year”.

The protests on the same day as that dickweed’s birthday parade prove there’s still something to love about this country. Convincing yourself that they’re unstoppable is how they become unstoppable. Don’t let them define what it means to be a patriotic American.

  35. This is so silly. Republicans will tell a pollster how they’re all gung-ho for ‘Merica, but then swallow Dear Leader’s bullshit lies on issues such as due process, separation of powers, ethics, judicial independence, etc.

  36. Republicans don’t love America, they hate America. They love *themselves* and think they *are* America, to the complete exclusion of anything else, and of course they are proud of being American, they are also proud to be white, and conservative, and Christian, and a lot of other things that they didn’t work for or earn.

Republicans despise this country and seek only to destroy it. They hate America’s government and wax poetic about drowning it in the bathtub. They are essentially monarchists who have no respect for the co-equal branches of government, the Constitution itself, or democracy in practice. They hate American cities, where most Americans live and work. They hate our unspoiled wilderness and want to pave it and put an oil spigot at one end. They hate our cherished ideals of equal treatment under the law and believe they should get special treatment. Police shouldn’t be allowed to stop them, restaurants, shops, and other private venues should not be able to turn them away, and no matter how outrageously they behave, they should never face consequences or any kind. They believe that no one in America should be allowed to get anything they don’t get first, no matter how great the need – healthcare, food, shelter, they will even begrudge people cheap cell phones if they didn’t get a free one first, typing out their ragegasm with a top model iPhone in their hands. They especially hate other Americans. They do not believe that non-conservatives are Americans, they don’t believe we have a right to vote, and they don’t believe we should be allowed to live in the country we were born in. They have rhetorically stripped us of our citizenship for years, and will not bat an eyelash if it happens in reality.

I’m not ashamed of my country, I am ashamed to be counted WITH THEM.

  37. Might be time to designate the Republican Party as a terrorist organization.

  38. Just like Starmer worked to reclaim national pride and nationalism from the Right in the UK, Democrats need to work to create their own brand of national pride and nationalism

  39. Never trust CNN. Never trust MSNBC. Never trust FOX. They all lie to you.

  40. Half of voting Americans just decided they wanted Donald Trump as president.

When you realize they did this voluntarily and with enthusiasm, it really shakes all belief in what you were taught about your country.

  41. Shocking considering how CNN was part of everything – downplaying Covid, continually having on people like Bolton, Birx, Navarro and every other of the First Felon’s toadies, and normalizing the behavior of him and his patriots as well as two-siding every issue. They could not stop bashing every move Biden made and of course his age. CNN and every other news outlet is compromised and are sources for entertainment only-not fact or open political discourse. Look at where their disgraced employees go – right wing propaganda programs.

  42. >“Republicans still are extremely or very proud to be an American,” Enten said.

Probably because a lot of them don’t live in reality and have no idea how the government is fucking us. Especially because of their own goddamn party.
