this man savors his final cigarette on the beach one last defiant puff before the new smoking ban silences the habit for good i find cigarette smoke very annoying especially when you have little babies it’s good that you can’t have cigarettes on the beach the measure also applies to public gardens and parks with the government’s aim being to protect children from passive smoking i think for children it’s a first step towards them not smoking i don’t smoke and every time I go somewhere where people smoke it makes me uncomfortable the rule also includes bus shelters swimming pools libraries and schools for those who fail to comply the government is considering a fourthass fine of €135 some smokers say they find this many restrictions oppressive i shouldn’t be deprived of my freedoms either because at the end of the day if you’re only allowed to smoke at your own home that’s ridiculous it happens all the time they bring out new restrictions we’re being infantilized somehow the law on smoking has gotten stricter over the years in 2005 smoking was banned on planes and trains in 2007 it was banned in public places and at work and in 2008 in restaurants cafes and nightclubs from today smoking will still be allowed on cafe and restaurant terraces and ecigarettes are not affected by the new decree

France has struggled to kick its smoking habit. A new public health decree published Saturday aims to change that. In the coming days, smoking will be banned in all French parks and sports venues, at beaches and bus stops, in a perimeter around all schools, and anywhere children could gather in public.

  10. Just plain stupid. Puritanism strikes. Why not ban colored water with sugar? At the moment, I am having a beer and smoking une clope on a bench in a Paris park where no one has approached me within 20 meters. I come here most days and it is always the same.

  19. I've never smoked in my life. In 2008, I was employed as a housing outreach worker for a caseload of mentally ill adults. 75% smoked, and many were chain smokers. I would walk into their apartments, and the acrid smell of cigarette smoke was everywhere. By the time I left that job, I had developed a bronchospasm. Every time the weather got cold, I'd start coughing. This went away a few months after I left that job.

  25. Banning smoking in all public places, within 25 ft of all entrances and exits, coupled with jacking up the prices worked in Washington State to help many kick the habit including myself. When you have to go hang out by yourself way away from people even when you go to a bar or restaurant just to have a smoke it makes you feel like alienated and like you are doing wrong, instead of being cool like the Marlboro man and normalized.

  34. This smoking ban will not work because nicotine is more addictive than heroin. The reason that French people are "less obese" than Americans are (per capita) is because France has a higher rate of smoking than the U.S. European smokers bring their nasty habit to tourist locations in the U.S. that accommodate them — particularly beaches in Florida.

  35. Meanwhile in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has a smoking habit of some Indonesians especially young children and politicians too because of cigarette marketing making the highest smokers in ASEAN

  37. Doesn't work..we have the same bans….how many tickets could someone hand out in a day….maybe in the future if they have ai robots that move on sand and in dense parks at 1000 mph and just spit out tickets based on facial recognition.
