The publisher that pulled the funding was Microsoft/Xbox
They’re not closed, but all their staff have been laid off. They basically don’t exist until they get a new source of funding. Romero is a big name in the games industry though, so hopefully they’ll get funding and be able to rehire most of their staff
I hope this isn’t a stall. They now have to pay the ex-employees for the statutory notice period despite letting them go immediately, plus whatever redundancy they have worked up. “Contractors” are proper screwed though.
It will be a sad day for the Irish Game industry if this is the end of the project and Romero games has to close. I hope they can pull something together.
I have faith that a publisher does step in soon and they can rehire most if not all staff – new shooter from Romero with Irish devs sounds too good to lose, and it’s important that the tiny games industry that already is here doesn’t lose a studio like this.
That’s decent news, hopefully they can stabilise themselves and get back on track.
