FlixBus Revolutionizes Romanian Travel with New Domestic Routes
On July 10, 2025, FlixBus made its long-awaited entry into the Romanian domestic travel market, launching its first-ever domestic coach routes across the country. This marks a major development in Romania’s transport sector, offering affordable travel options across over 50 cities. The move is expected to transform how both locals and tourists experience travel within the country, while also providing a significant boost to Romania’s tourism industry.
Strengthening Romania’s Internal Transport Network
Known for its low-cost, efficient bus services across Europe, FlixBus has now turned its attention to Romania, expanding its network to offer budget-friendly travel within the country. Starting from July 10, 2025, passengers can travel between major cities such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Iași, Timișoara, Brașov, Sibiu, and others. The ticket prices for these services begin as low as RON 9.99, depending on the time of booking and availability, offering a highly affordable travel option.
Tickets can be easily purchased through the FlixBus website, mobile app, SelfPay kiosks, or from any of the 1,000+ partner travel agencies spread across the country. The booking period runs from July 3 to July 31, 2025, for travel dates between July 10 and September 15, 2025, allowing plenty of time for travelers to plan their trips.
Supporting Local Tourism and Increased Accessibility
Adrian Rășoiu, the Business Development Director at FlixBus Romania, highlighted the company’s intention to promote local tourism through these newly introduced services. The new routes are aimed at improving accessibility to key tourist destinations that have previously been hard to reach. By expanding the travel network to include more remote and under-connected areas, FlixBus aims to open up new opportunities for both Romanian locals and international visitors to explore lesser-known parts of the country.
The domestic routes are designed to connect the entire country, from Romania’s eastern to western, northern, and southern regions. These routes are also integrated into FlixBus’s broader international network, allowing for seamless travel to neighboring destinations like Sofia, Thessaloniki, and Balchik. This integration helps solidify Romania’s position as an essential transit hub in Southeastern Europe, offering greater travel flexibility to international tourists.
Impact on Romania’s Travel Market
This move by FlixBus comes at a time when coach travel is increasingly becoming the preferred mode of transport in Romania, especially for foreign tourists. In 2024, nearly 37,000 international visitors arrived in Romania by coach, ranking it among the top three transport choices, alongside planes and trains. With the introduction of affordable, efficient coach services, FlixBus is poised to further promote this growing trend, providing a reliable and cost-effective alternative for those seeking budget travel.
There has also been a notable increase in transport-related spending by tourists in Romania, growing by more than 15% in 2024. This upward trend points to an increasing demand for affordable and well-connected transport services. By stepping into the market, FlixBus aims to cater to this demand, positioning itself as a key player in Romania’s evolving transportation scene.
Furthermore, FlixBus plans to collaborate with local transport companies, ensuring the service gradually expands to all major cities and tourist hotspots across Romania. This partnership is expected to create a comprehensive, interconnected travel network that will benefit both passengers and the local economy.
FlixBus’s Expansion Strategy
The launch of domestic routes in Romania is not only a significant expansion into Eastern Europe, but also a part of FlixBus’s broader strategy to tap into regions with growing demand for affordable travel options. By establishing a strong presence in Romania, FlixBus strengthens its role as a leading force in Europe’s bus travel industry. The integration of these new domestic routes with its existing international network offers even more value to travelers seeking multi-destination trips across Europe.
Additionally, FlixBus is tapping into the increasing demand for sustainable travel options. Coaches, generally more eco-friendly than planes or cars, are an attractive choice for environmentally-conscious travelers. With its fleet of modern, eco-friendly buses, FlixBus appeals to a growing demographic of passengers concerned about their carbon footprint.
A Global Shift in Travel Trends
The addition of domestic routes in Romania illustrates how the travel industry is evolving to meet the needs of modern travelers who prioritize affordability, convenience, and accessibility. FlixBus is playing a vital role in this shift by providing affordable travel options and promoting the exploration of regional destinations. This move is expected to have a ripple effect throughout the wider European and global travel markets.
By promoting regional travel and offering low-cost travel options, FlixBus is helping to grow sustainable tourism in Europe. Moreover, its integration of Romanian domestic routes into the international network creates an even more appealing option for travelers looking to explore Europe without breaking the bank.
A New Chapter for Romania’s Transportation System
The introduction of FlixBus’s domestic services in Romania marks a transformative moment for the country’s transportation landscape. With competitive pricing, easy booking access, and international network connections, FlixBus is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on both local and international tourism. This expansion opens up a wealth of new travel opportunities for Romanians and enhances the country’s appeal as a vibrant and accessible destination in Southeastern Europe.
By offering affordable, efficient, and environmentally-friendly travel, FlixBus is not just revolutionizing the way people travel within Romania, but also contributing to the broader shift towards sustainable, accessible tourism across Europe.
