I stumbled into the European sub (Europe_sub) last week, god it’s pathetic. There’s people still posting that Ireland is the most anti-semitic country in Europe and there’s people claiming to be Irish saying that there’s not that much support for Palestine here and we’ve tens of thousands of people out marching against the government. What a kip of a sub.
Davitt is really interesting because people rightly quote his work on the Russian pale, but other times he’s just a really standard anti-semite.
Because resistance to genocide is not anti-semitism but the essence of humanity.
Israel, has weaponised anti- Semitism to mean anyone who opposes the mass extinction of all Palestinians. We are able to distinguish between Hamas and ordinary citizens they don’t want to.
Sir Mathew Nathan was deliberately carried by Irish Nationalists who, as Irish Under Secretary, was supposed to help prepare Ireland for Home Rule.
I suspect, though do not know, someone of Jewish extraction was deliberately chosen so as not to be too Catholic or too Protestant. But, as his job was preparing for Home Rule, he defaulted to Redmond most of the time. Who led the IPP which was, as often forgotten was an anti-clerical party.
There was some support for a Jewish homeland in Ireland. Jews having been seen as fellow people whose homeland was stripped from them and forced to be a diasporic urban community (rightly or wrongly).
Still, it wasn’t really until the ethnic cleansing that Ireland en masse called bullshit. Which, really, everyone should do. Not because of a hatred of Jews, but a hatred of genocide.
My father, who went to Presentation Brothers College, a catholic school, ( known in Cork as Pres.) in the 30’s told me that the jewish community sent their sons to Pres. including Gerald Goldberg who subsequently was Lord mayor of Cork. Hows that for anti semitism ? Its easy (and lazy) to label somone who is anti Isreali as anti Jewish.
That article is cherry picking in the extreme.
Two examples of individuals does not give us a proud history of antisemitism.
Just as events like the limerick pogroms do not make us nazi germany
There’s always going to be a long history of both sides of this particular argument if you look hard enough
Facts don’t matter. They wield that accusation like a club, against their perceived enemies. It doesn’t matter what the truth is, they use it to try and hurt, not to actually expose anti-Semitism.

Part of Irish antisemitism is denying their own antisemitic history for political reasons. No country that opposes antisemitism would have allowed Oliver J. Flanagan to have a successful political career after giving a vile, antisemitic speech back in 1943.
Ireland is anti Israel because they are a genocidal and occupier state. Can one be that and not antisemitic? That seems to be what people are divided on?
For anyone who might be considering buying his books, the “historian” Simon Sebag Montefiore is fully behind tarring us as anti-Semites with all the evidence one would expect of fake historians.
Bear this in mind if ye ever get tempted to buy any of his books.
That’s hilarious
Ireland has had a better outlook on separating anti semitism from the atrocities in gaza and accurately identifying both for longer than most countries outside the middle east. Of course since it became a more relevant issue in the US since the 7th of october, a lot of uniformed zionists have jumped on trying to paint Ireland as some kind mini 3rd reich for holding the same opinions we always have.

Lol absolute nonsense
Look at what Zionists are saying and posting about us. I’ve seen them posting Victorian-Era caricatures of us.
Why should we care about them when they couldn’t care less about us?
I despise the Irish government on most occasions but at least on this issue there’s at least some pushback against what Israel is doing.
You know you’re doing something right when Israel and their supporters spew shit about you.
Didn’t we like chase the Jews out of Limerick in the 1800’s?
Edit – here’s an article on it, it was 1904. And who knew Arthur Griffith was an anti semite!
There is a micro-influencer on X that contributes hugely to this “Ireland is the most antisemitic country in Europe” nonsense. And they live in Ireland.

Someone better show this to the Israelis.

The support for Israel as it was constituted was a little different. From [Churchill’s horrifyingly anti-Semitic call for a Jewish homeland in order to try and stop the Jewish worldwide conspiracy to promote communism and keep Germany down after World War I](https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Zionism_versus_Bolshevism), to setting it up as [a “loyal Ulster” founded by the Black and Tans.](https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/winston-churchill-sent-the-black-and-tans-to-palestine-1.3089140?mode=amp)

Well there was that pogrom in Limerick a while back. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerick_boycott#
