Maple Ridge wrestler Madisyn Grof put on a world class performance in Spain.

Canada sent a large contingent of 26 athletes to the 2025 Grand Prix of Spain – a highly regarded international tournament that brings strong competition from all over the wrestling world. It was a great chance for members of Canada’s national team program to test themselves against top-tier competition.

Grof won gold in the 55 kg class, and her stellar day included being Canada’s only undefeated wrestler during the competition.

“I feel great, I feel like every tournament is a stepping stone towards the World Championships and I am excited to continue wrestling,” said Grof after her win.

Canada had a strong showing at the event in Madrid, taking home 12 medals (two gold, five silver, and five bronze). In addition, the women’s team earned second place overall.

Grof is still in Spain for a training session, and will compete at the world championships in August, being held in Bulgaria.

The 19-year-old is a graduate from Maple Ridge secondary school, and had a distinguished career as a member of the Ramblers wrestling team. Grof won the 54-kg title at the 2023 BC high school championships, and led the Ramblers to the team banner. She took silver at the 2022 high school provincials.
