Basically same as the tittle.
For context:
Where I come from, tap water tastes so bad that many people opt to have these 20L bottles at home with a dispenser, there's even companies that ship them to your house and take the empty ones with them, essentially a tasty water subscription.
I care a lot about the taste and mineral content of my water since I brew a lot of specialty coffee at home but having to buy a 6 pack from volvic every week is impractical, expensive and an environmental nightmare.

not really, just get like a brita filter or something, we mostly drink tap water
No. People either drink tap water or buy bottled water in crates.
Never seen one of these before, expect in public settings like hospitals, stores etc.. People in germany prefer bottled water (in those 1.5L bottles) or tap water. A lot of people also use soda stream to carbonate their tap water
I’m Team Tap Water! It’s almost free and I have not managed to find a region in Germany where water doesn’t taste to my liking.
Just drink the tap water, it’s usually great.
just drink tap water (Kranenberger), no need for dispenser.
no we have extremely clean tap water here. it’s even better than our bottled water. there is no reason to install something like that here.
Tap water is completely safe and fine to drink, but you can always install a filter if needed
In Germany, tap water rules.
Not really. We mostly just drink tab water.
Yes, every home has one. We call them “tap” or “Wasserhahn” and they are hooked up to a citywide endless supply of drinking water!
They exist, they are just not common for private households because German tap water is high quality. If you for example have hard water people rather use a filter than buy bottled water for their tea.
There are companies offering this for offices but it is not common and costly so that bottled water is the cheaper option.
But tap water is fine mostly. It took my neighbour a long time to convince is foreign wife to give it a try as she watched him not dying for 3 months.
What you will see a lot are soda machines for tap water as a lot of people prefer to drink carbonised water.
No, tap water in Germany is great.
No.
Mostly in doctors‘ waiting rooms, but that’s it.
I have a water dispenser like this next to my desk:
It’s filled with tap water (which while on the hard water side tastes really good, mineral composition seems perfect) and sometimes I add mint leaves or a lemon in summer.

Not really. Most people either buy bottled water or drink tap water.
Tap water is very tightly controlled and of high quality in Germany. Small caveat: that’s true for the wells and water mains. If you live in a house with old piping, a water filter might be a good idea.
I drink tap water and use bottled water for my espresso machine.
Many beverage retailers deliver to your doorstep free of charge, just google a bit. Or you could see if Flaschenpost.de delivers to your area code.
You can then browse https://wasserdatenbank.de/ and check the minerals of the available water brands.
I found a nice, soft mineral water from a local spring that costs half of whatever Volvic charges. It comes in reusable glass bottles and makes good coffee. Every few weeks i order a new stack of crates, the delivery guy takes the empty ones and subtracts the Pfand from the bill.
No heavy lifting, good coffee, no descaling and it’s cheaper and more sustainable than imported water.
Edit: You guys. My tap water has 21°dH. My coffee machine has a brass boiler and cannot be descaled. I love tap water but it literally doesn’t work for this machine. Please have mercy.
You can find these in offices.. if you’re lucky.
But why would you need these, we have the best tap water in the world and easily available bottled water.
No. Most people drink tap water or bottled due to convenience.
Tap water is the strictest controlled food in Germany. It’s safe to drink everywhere. And it tastes great (in some regions better than others) as it has by far not such a high chlorine content as in other countries.
The objective quality of tap water in Germany is very high. However, it does not taste great everywhere. For example, at my hone its fairly good, but at my work place it has a metallic taste, which is no problem for tea or coffee, but I don’t drink it plain.
No. Get a filter instead ( a proper one, not a Brita ion exchanger). There is no tap water free of PFAS in Germany
Tap water is quite likely better. At least close to the mountains.
I use a [Brita Water canister](https://www.brita.de/produkte/flow-tischwasserfilter/1051463) which fits nicely in the fridge and use the [filters that removes more limescale](https://www.brita.de/produkte/maxtra-pro-limescale-expert-filterkartusche/1050848?subscription=019589f3e2d57fd493ff06b3be44f817)
Bought this specifically for coffee usage because water in my city is quite hard (11-13°dH) and found it helps a lot.
Also it fits nicely in the fridge so you can safely store more water without having issues regarding bacterial growth
Brazilian living in Berlin here. We also have those in Brazil and after three years living in Berlin I never got used to how tap water tastes here.
Closest thing I got was this XXL wasserfilter from Brita that I leave inside my fridge. It helps with how the water tastes and it’s cold all the time. https://amzn.eu/d/8bGwi1B
Where I live (near Munich) the quality of the tap water is higher than the bottled, also it’s very tasty. Not so good as in Dilijan, but still very good.
I also brew specialty coffee, so I use Brita filters to lower the amount of lime build up in the coffee machine.
No, we have “fließend Leitungswasser” and there is no chlorine in tap water. The water quality is controlled and often better, than bottled water.
Nope. We drink tap water or bottled sparkling water.
Your own fault when you buy Volvic. Other cheaper waters taste just as good and some even better.
I don’t know if you’re new in Germany but i used to also get the Volvic water bottle at first then realised later that the generic brands taste actually better and are a lot cheaper.
I find the ones from Lidl or Netto to be really good but the Rewe water tastes terrible where I live.
You could try this https://produkte.metro.de/shop/pv/BTY-X243086/0032/0022/Volvic-Naturelle-8-l-PET-72-Stück-Display
But you would need someone who has a registered business to buy at metro AFAIK.
edit: if you google Volvic 8L it seems to also be available at some non-wholesalers.
No. Not that kind anyway. Water dispensers get more common though, especially in public buildings. But you’d have to sue most employers to get a free bottle of water in germany during a hot summer.
Go to a DM, they always have one of those for customers, take a photo of it and google the brand. I remember doing that before and there was a website where you could order them online (but never actually bought one)
Nope
Im 32 years old and never saw that in germany
I saw many at the dentist or at the clinic here in Germany
German tap water is great. I was kinda shocked to discover how many people buy still bottled water and still don’t understand why.
Rohrperle and Kranenberger 4 Lyfe!
Why? The water from the tap is usually the same which is bottled in those crates. Yes the taste and quality of tap water varies from region to region. But the tap water in Germany is from better quality than volvic. Volvic is pretty much the worst you can buy
Domestic? No. You can get water like that from the tap. There are under-the-sink units that will chill, heat or carbonate the water, but bottled water dispensers? Nope.
A friend of mine has one of those in his room, because he is too lazy to go from the PC to the kitchen to get water, lol. But I have never seen this anywhere else, not even in offices. We just drink tap water and/or bottled water there as well
Have seen one only twice in the waiting room of my vet and in a hospital. At my workplace we use water dispenser in every department with a cooling and filtering system connectext to the water pipes.
Never seen them, but if you’re unwilling to drink tap water or get bottled water from the grocery store, you can use services like Flaschenpost to have crates of bottled water delivered to your door. However, it’s not cheap, especially if you add a tip for the delivery guy who has to carry the crates up your stairs (as you should).
Not really, no. At least not at home.
Tap water is held to extremely high standards here. In many cases, the tap water is even healthier/better than the bottled water you can buy. Towns are also legally required to publish the lab test results and the water is tested regularly. So unless you don’t have a Problem with your own plumbing in your house, you don’t need to buy water. I haven’t bought bottled water for decades and I almost exclusively drink water (aside from my morning coffee or the occasional beer when out and about with my buddies).
Germany has some of the best tap water in the World.
There is quite literally no reason to.
Id recommend a filter if you’re particular about your water quality. For most people it’s fine as is
Yeah there is a system for domestic drinking water distribution virtually every household is attached to!!
Nope, straight from the tap. It’s cleaner that way.
