Man charged with murders of two men in Co Sligo

  1. Are we allowed to have a grown up conversation about the growth of Islam in Ireland or are we just going to get a load of puff pieces about LGBT Muslims and far right rhetoric?

  2. He deserves everything he will get behind bars and more.

    The fact that bastard can walk around after beheading two men is beyond fucking me. I hope the families get some peace knowing that the bastard is being locked up and hopefully will be thrown around like a rag doll.

  3. Homophobia is one way of interpreting this, an act of terror is another way … my useless thoughts are with those poor men and their families and communities.

  4. A moderator this morning ran a smear campaign against a well-respected, experienced international journalist, with impeccable contacts in Ireland’s security establishment, writing for the world’s best-known newspaper, because that journalist included a fact about the defendant that the media in Ireland chose not to publish.

    The “reason” for banning mention of the fact changed three times in an hour.

    That’s not okay.

    The fact turned out to be, well, factual.

    Positions should be being considered.

  5. At least they caught the fucker. A terrible tragedy and a horrible crime. I hope the gay community is not scared with fear, and the migrant community is not scared with any sort of interpretation of this.

  6. All major religions are anti-gay (and anti-equality in other ways) but followers of Islam seem to act on it more. I think everyone should be free to go about their religion, but I also have to live knowing a lot of these people view me as deserving of punishment for being gay.

    I’ll never stop thinking of poor Aidan and Michael. We blossomed into a society where it became easier and accepted to be gay and men their age would’ve watched it grow from intolerance to indifference to acceptance. Only to then be slaughtered by intolerance. My heart broke hearing of news of Aidan’s killing, only to wake up the next day of Michael’s murder and feel even sicker. I can’t imagine how they suffered.

  7. this is so sad . I am heartbroken for them, their families and their friends and the gay community and wider community , all of us . It’s a really sad day for all of us; for Ireland .

  8. What a fucking pathetic cunt. He looks as pathetic and ugly as I thought he was.

    On another note, why do we give murderers cool names like “The Night Stalker”, “Jack The Ripper” or “The Zodiac Killer” instead of just insulting them. I’ll deem this man “The Sligo Shitstain”.

  9. Biggest thing I can see is that if the accused had suspected homophobic motives tied to hard core catholic values, people would be calling on the Catholic Church in Ireland to publicly denounce and decry the murder and mutilation of anyone as not within the values of the church. Nothing short of complete excommunication would be expected of them to ridicule them within the community they hold dearest.

    People will vilify individual Muslims because of this, which isn’t right either, the majority I know are incredibly respectful of Irish culture and ways of life, but expect widespread anti Islamic backlash. However it will be a long time before a senior member of Islam in Ireland stands up and decries this behaviour calling for assimilation of Irish values including acceptance of the lgbt community. We denounce individuals for homophobia, why to we facilitate institutions who practice and support it

  10. Where’s the outrage and calls of toxic islamism as per the toxic masculinity calls when women were murdered? Twitter virtue signallers nowhere to be seen, Aisling Murphy was all over every social media timeline for weeks, rightly so. Where’s the outrage for these lads?

  11. I wish more people would wake up to the fact of how absurd these religions are and stop defending them. This is a medieval warlords spin-off religion and is Christianity’s and Judaism’s brother/sister religion. They are all barbaric, outdated, ultra-conservative right wing dominated religions that have no place in progressive countries and their followers are a threat to women and sexual minorities and any person of integrity should call them out for what they are.

  12. Guys are we allowed to talk about this now? I’m not sure the Garda commissioner gave the mods the go ahead on this

  13. It’s scary to realise how easily this can happen to literally anyone of any age through the likes of Grindr or Tinder. They must be prime hunting grounds for Psychos.

  14. I’m not from Ireland and didn’t hear about the murders but I looked into them after reading the article. This whole thing just hurts my heart. My condolences to the victims and their loved ones.

  15. Seeing a lot of comments like “now is the time to open our arms to our Muslim brothers etc etc”

    Why should we? Being gay is illegal in so many Islamic countries, punishable by death. Their religion hates homosexuality. I’m not gonna say I don’t let Muslims into the country but I’m not fucking welcoming them if they think I’m subhuman.

  16. As a trained barrister some of the legal advisers here with their law degrees from the university of Facebook / Reddit are beyond cringe.

    * Due process.
    * Pre-trial publicity

    …. Look it up.

    Then look up the rape case the Irish Independent ruined with their coverage and the fine they had to pay as a result.

    Then have a quiet moment for the alleged rape victim who had her case ruined by the Independent.

  17. The family was integrated but for some reason that will come out in due course he was sent to Syria for 6 months and clearly came back radicalised.

  18. Scum of the earth and I hope anyone involved in the criminal investigation is being looked after it must be horrific to witness such extreme violence

  19. Jesus attacks on the 9th, 10th and 12th….he wasn’t going to stop either. As grim as it sounds we probably got very lucky and stopped a spree killer at 2..

  20. Can someone tell me the story of this I’m from the North of Ireland and literally heard a whiff of it on the news yesterday about two murders possibly being linked and a hate crime but didn’t state what the hate crime was. I assumed it was probably two gay men as there was mention of a dating app
