Poland has long been a source of inspiration for Moldova – through its democratic transformation, economic modernization, and successful journey towards European integration, stated President Maia Sandu, who is on a working visit to Warsaw. At the press conference, held alongside her Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, the head of state mentioned that the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Poland is stronger than ever, with Poland being a model to follow, reports IPN.
“Poland has been, in turn, a beneficiary of solidarity. And now, Poland offers it – with generosity and impact. Moldova is one of the countries that has benefited from your support. From the COVID-19 pandemic, to the energy crisis and the wave of refugees – and now, in our journey towards EU membership – Poland has stood by Moldova”, noted Maia Sandu.
According to the president, cooperation with Poland has a concrete impact on the development of the Republic of Moldova – from the support provided in crises, such as the gas purchase in 2021, to the modernization of schools, hospitals, and local institutions. Also, Poland contributes to the strengthening of security, by equipping the law enforcement forces, and supports the Moldovan economy through assistance offered to entrepreneurs and strategic investments.
“We are eager to see more Polish companies investing in Moldova – in areas such as the food and agricultural industry, construction, banking sector, and renewable energy. Moldova offers a cost-effective and business-friendly base for access to the Romanian and Ukrainian markets. Having a smaller domestic market, we are obliged, as a country, to build the most competitive export platform in the region and we want ambitious Polish firms to capitalize on this potential”, says Maia Sandu.
In the context of the European journey, Maia Sandu reaffirmed the firm commitment of the Republic of Moldova for reforms and integration. “Poland knows better than anyone how much EU membership can change lives. You’ve seen this in your cities, in industry, in households. And now, Moldova is following the same path – with commitment, seriousness, and determination. We are not asking for shortcuts. We are doing our homework – because we believe in this project. And because we want to contribute to it”, the president further stated.
