Hi everyone🇵🇹
I'm on a mission to collect at least one coin or banknote from every country I visit—and Portugal is up next! I’ll be spending time in both Lisbon and Porto, and I'd love your advice on the best places to find pre-euro Portuguese escudos (coins or notes).

Does anyone know good places—like coin shops, flea markets, or even museums—that sell old escudo coins or bills?

Appreciate any tips or personal experiences.

  2. Porto has its’ fair share of coin collector establishments, afair, from when I lived there

    If you search for «Numismático» (coin collector in portuguese) + the city name you’re going for, you’ll likely get more results.

  3. There s note missing – 100 escudos. I remember very well because I bought 100 escudos in gorilla schewing gum. I was so happy!!

  6. I have a lot of them, some are brand new other have been circulated, i have a small currency collection that i inherited, i would love to sell it.

    Acho que só vi a nota de 10 uma ou duas vezes na vida.

  8. Quando uma tia minha me dava 2 contos no natal…. Damn dava para tanto. Um bollycao era 50 escudos (ou 25 talvez)…os rebuçados eram aquela moeda de 2.5$

  9. Eram bem bonitas, estas notas. As mais antigas que me lembro são as de 20 escudos, aquela com o hidroavião.

  10. If you’re in Porto next Saturday morning (12/07) go to the Nasoni Metro station and then wal until you find the new Feira da Vandoma. One of the things you can get there are old coins and banknotes.

    Another good option is Sunday morning, near Praça D. João I. You have a small fair just for collectables. focusing mostly on coins.
