FlixBus has introduced two liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered long-distance coaches on its route between Prague and Kraków, marking the first time this technology has been deployed on long-distance bus services in Czechia and Poland.

The new vehicles are part of Flix’s broader efforts to trial alternative fuel technologies across its network, as the company continues working towards its target of net-zero emissions in Europe by 2040.

The two newly launched vehicles are Scania Irizar models designed for long-haul routes.

LNG propulsion offers emissions reductions of approximately 10–15% compared to conventional diesel-powered coaches. These buses can also run on bio-LNG, which could enable greater emissions savings where the fuel is available, potentially reducing CO₂ output by up to 90%.

LNG has already been used on selected Flix-operated services in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. The company said the decision to expand its LNG fleet into Central Europe reflects its belief in the suitability of this technology for long-distance routes, where infrastructure and range remain limiting factors for electric and hydrogen alternatives.

Flix now operates over 100 vehicles using alternative drivetrains across its European and international networks.
