What has happened this year that would cause the value of the dollar to plummet like this? Tariff turmoil would do it. Adding $3.4-trillion to the United States’ debt would do it. Rampant corruption in the federal government would do it. What else would explain it?

  1. So at what point will the US dollar completely lose it’s value? What’s stopping investors from dumping this currency altogether?

  2. Started long long time ago. The endless handing out if money in foreign aid. Continuously acting like there was a limit less printer has all played a part in making the dollar weaker and weaker.

  3. All combined, a crippling loss of trust in the Dollar as the world’s reserve currency and in the US as the safest financial haven.

Policy uncertainty, tariffs, a lower Dollar, higher interest rates, low consumer confidence, less welfare to stimulate the sick & poor, less funding for education and research, less cheap migrant labor, less exports and less tourism. All these things and more combined are a snowball that will eventually grow in speed and size as it rolls downhill the US economy.

  4. And if Trump has his way and the Fed lowers interest rates, the value of the dollar will go down more.

  5. Why would anybody lose faith in a federal government headed up by a felonious traitorous puppet for religious zealots and violent extremists? I mean just because they are robbing the public blind, eliminating freedoms, rewriting history, denying science, surveilling everybody and threatening to incarcerate or deport anybody who disagrees with them. C’mon man.

  6. How about Congress’ penchant for providing the president with blank checks, which could lead to blank balances.

  7. We elected an incompetent jerk to be our President for the next 4 years. That would do it.

  8. These charts ignore the years the dollar had the “best year in decades” preceding the worst.

  9. Good Lordy! What else do u need? I guess we also bombed Iran 🇮🇷 for no apparent reason!

  10. There’s a loss of faith in US institutions and US population as well.

Previously there were checks on the idiots so if they tried to do something really stupid some portion(s) of the government would stop them. That has gone away significantly with Trump.

For the US population, they would get tricked into doing stupid things, but generally there would be a little bit of learning. You could be confident that even if Americans were dumb enough to vote for candy for breakfast, in a few years they would have learned enough to vote against it. By re-electing Trump the US population has removed a lot of that confidence that they can learn from their mistakes.

With both of these, it’s not difficult to see the possibility that the US is on a downward slide that won’t be reversed for a long time, similar to the Spanish and British empires from centuries ago.

The other part of this is that confidence in the US was extremely high, so the effect of the above is amplified. If confidence in the US becomes equal to Europe or China, that would be significantly lower than it was in the 90s and before.

  11. You know how you used to hear Delaware corporation (for corporate friendliness) or Swiss bank account (for their protectiveness of privacy)?

The US used to be a trusted trade partner, a staunch ally, and THE economic bastion of the developed world. I don’t have to ask you if you think the world still sees us that way.

  12. Don’t forget endless attacks on the independence of the Fed Reserve, Overwhelming cuts to scientific/medical research, cuts to many other critical gov’t services like weather forecasts, infrastructure ….

  13. Countries all but deciding to move to another standard currency should be in the list. The risk that poses at least.

  14. It’s what happens when you elect a criminal conman rapist traitor.

  15. Outside of 4/7-4/11 it is just 10 year treasury yield movement.

  16. Purposefully tanking the dollar while also passing acts to make cryptocurrency a new fiat currency. Thats one of the main goals that they’re trying to accomplish
