It’s works fine at Murrayfield with the rugby. I enjoy it.
This is a mistake
It’s not like people don’t drink like there’s no tomorrow beforehand, so conversely, it might be a better idea and worth a trial run.
Police Scotland is broke and looking to reduce officer numbers at football. This will place a significant burden on their already greatly diminished resources.
Wait until an old firm match, and the home team is 3 down by half time.
Gotta make sure the plastic cups are flimsy so people can’t throw them at players during free kicks.
if fans come to the games drunk, stadiums might aswell sell them the beer.
They are just going to end up banning it again because, as per usual, the arseholes will be out in force and spoil it for everyone else because they act like children and can’t be responsible adults.
If there’s alcohol free stands that would be great for the people who don’t want to put up with it
By the looks of the article this isn’t about repealing the law introduced in 1980, but rather allowing a license for a fanzone area within the stadium grounds (but out of sight of the pitch) for regular fans similar to those available for fans enjoying hospitality areas.
The Ayr example is a fanzone limited to 66 fans who’ve paid £35 for a ticket and up to 4 pints before the game and 1 at halftime.
So, basically hospitality lite. And entirely at the discretion of the local licensing board. Maybe GCC will approve this for Old Firm games, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Woohoo, well done.
Seems strange they want to do this now when there’s been an upsurge of unruly behaviour in grounds these last few seasons.
I mean, going to absolutely burst bubbles here, but this is absolute waffle. Its only drinks before kickoff and at half time.
If they wanted to truly pull the finger out, they follow the footsteps of England where you can’t drink in view of the pitch, but you can at non league.
Do that, and you’re off to a blinder and clubs at the bottom of the pile get sorely needed income.
Great way to add revenue into Scottish Football for all teams. For the whatabout bunch in here getting their knickers in a twist, have you considered that they will probably just not serve alcohol in those games ?
Every goal that’s scored the beer will go up in the air
Makes sense really, clubs are putting on the show and paying for the police, but not getting the financial reward from most of the drink sold on the day.
I would imagine that any new system they come up with is going to have an opt out for the police or council to let them stop sales for the big derbies and obvious problem games.
Good. The retention of unenforceable laws for their own sake is prohibition logic.
People already attend the football drunk. The ban failed.

Usual pearl clutching replies as expected from here.
If serving pints in the grounds makes less people get absolutely shitfaced before the games (which is the main issue) and smuggling booze into grounds, then it’s absolutely a positive
The guys in front of me bring 2 half bottles of tonic to every game each without fail. Folk drink at the football anyway.
Can’t wait to drink at football.
I just bought a new pack of darts too
Most stadiums have fan bars pre-match and after the match. Why serve alcohol during a match if you can’t go without a drink for 90 minutes then you have an alcohol problem. Every club has its nut jobs this is a silly idea . Of course I’m sure the vast majority would treat alcohol served at games with respect. However it’s always the minority that spoil it for the majority.
I don’t understand all the comments saying this will stop people getting tanked before a game as if a couple £8 pints will really stop someone tanning a bottle of wine on the bus to a game?
If you genuinely think that will change this behaviour you live in a fantasyland. Similarly if ypu think the people who smuggle a bottle of El D into the ground will magically stop doing so you’re delusional. These are people that despite already having a drink cant go more than 2 hours without a drink and almost certainly won’t pay the money seeing as they’re already smuggling it in
Im also fed up with people comparing it to rugby or football hospitality where there isnt a proven track record of clowns causing fights and ruining it for everyone
Come on ye saints, performance enhancers in the stands boys
