By Dan Gooding and Gabe Whisnant:
Texas Governor Greg Abbott rebuked a question about “blame” during a Tuesday afternoon press conference to announce that more than 160 people are believed to be missing in the aftermath of the flash floods that killed more than 100 over the July Fourth weekend.
Abbott told a reporter: “You asked and I’m going to use your words, ‘Who’s to blame?’ Know this, that’s the word choice of losers.”
He continued, in part: “Let me explain one thing about Texas. Every square inch of our state cares about football. Every football team makes mistakes. The losing teams are the ones who try to point out who is to blame. The championship teams are the ones who say don’t worry about it, we got this.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if they end blaming Biden.
I won’t hold my breath for Texas to vote out these people who are actively killing the population.
the sheer stupidity of all this is very, very unique to Texas.
Blaming Biden is ok though…js

Do they play *Rollerball* rules football in Texas? The only way this comparison would work is if the team lost 160 players per game. Why does Texas keep electing this dum-dum?
It’s just like every school shooting post-Columbine.
“It’s too early to talk about”
“It’s not actually the guns, it’s _______ (often mental health)”
2 months pass…
“And this is why we need to cut those ‘healthcare handouts’ for mental health in our budget, Mr. Speaker”
Rinse and repeat
A Fact About the Floods the Government Doesn’t Seem Eager to Discuss – NY Times opinion – July 9th 2025:
“When a reporter demanded to know why the summer camps along the Guadalupe River weren’t evacuated before its waters reached their deadly peak on July 4, Rob Kelly, the highest-ranking local official, had a simple answer: “No one knew this kind of flood was coming.”
Why not? Kerr County, Texas, had lots of history to go on — as Judge Kelly went on to explain: “We have floods all the time. This is the most dangerous river valley in the United States.” The National Weather Service had even brought in extra staff that night. Most important, the service had issued three increasingly dire warnings early that morning — at 1:14 a.m., 4:03 a.m. and 6:06 a.m.
What Kelly didn’t mention, but which has since become well known, is that the Weather Service employee whose job it was to make sure those warnings got traction — Paul Yura, the long-serving meteorologist in charge of “warning coordination” — had recently taken an unplanned early retirement amid cuts pushed by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. He was not replaced.”
Yes – Trump is to blame and Abbott right behind him.
more than 100 confirmed dead, 161 missing. These numbers will likely go up.
You can bet if this happened in California that Abbott would 100% be blaming Newsom.
If you keep voting republicans, expect to have a clown show….
Honestly, I kinda wish these ghouls would just stand up in defense of their inhuman political ideology in the face of the immediate consequences of that ideology, like this tragedy. Or Uvalde. Explain to the public in clear and direct words that the mounting death count is a necessary and important sacrifice to make in order to preserve their Rugged Texan Values of Grit, Liberty, and Freedom from Evil Communist Socialist Liberal Government. Treat the victims like heroic soldiers in the battle against a society that wishes to protect its own people.
At least that would demonstrate some degree of intellectual consistency and honesty. Instead, they hide behind false piety and self-righteousness and meaningless quasi-folksy metaphors about football or some shit.
But we all know, it’s because they realize their positions are indefensible and they cannot publicly advocate for a belief system that treats humanity so callously.
One of the Cajun Navy volunteers said on CNN the number is probably closer to 500. There were RV parks and campgrounds with a hundred vehicles that were completely washed away. If everyone was asleep in a tent or car or rv/trailer, theres no one to immediately report them missing.
I remember when people only blamed Gavin Newsom for the LA fire.
Over 100 Americans are dead. All of us should be asking for accountability. Who were responsible for this tragedy? How many of them are criminally liable? Who needs to be fired?
“He could not stop talking about how sad he was for all the little girls who have lost their lives,” Abbott said.
This checks, Dirty Donny loves underage girls.
I literally cannot stand Greg Abbott, and he can’t either.
Ironsides is directly to blame for this.
tHe PaRTy Of PErSoNal rEsPonSiBILitY
He didnt use the chance to blame windmills on this?
Something about football and winning
And Texans keep voting in this a$$hole and his cronies. It’s just an inconvenience to them that people have died – just wait, Abbott will find a way to divert attention soon. Probably a border “incident”. I mean got to get people outraged about immigrants again.
Trump: “Abbott did a great job as the body count could have tripled…”
<Body Count Triples>
Trump: “Are we *still* talking about this?….”
Dude, just tell the public to look on the bright side that at least none of the dead people can have abortions or use the restroom while trans.
“no no see we blame Democrats when bad things happen, don’t blame us!”
Winning football teams do in fact ask “who’s fault” it is when they lose
*An old man mumbles about football, afraid of the weather and refusing to acknowledge the true danger: unmitigated climate change.
No no. There was a disaster. The flood was natural, the response was man made. And since the response was a stupid cluster fuck, someone deserves blame.
*”The championship teams are the ones who say don’t worry about it, we got this.””*
It’s pretty obvious that you DON’T got this.
texans should be furious but somehow they’ll still vote for the same assholes?
