Nicosia, Cyprus – July 8, 2025 – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is proud to announce the participation of fifteen distinguished Greek American educators in a ten-day training program in Cyprus, held from July 8 to July 18, 2025. This educational initiative is generously supported by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus and the Leadership 100 Endowment Fund.

The participating educators come from across the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Baltimore, Michigan, South Carolina, and Philadelphia.

The program officially began with a kick-off meeting at the Ministry of Education in Nicosia, where the Minister of Education, Dr. Athina Michailidou, warmly welcomed the educators and expressed her joy and strong support for the initiative. Also present was Mrs. Elena Hadjikakou, Director of the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus, who affirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing Hellenic education beyond the island’s borders.

Following the opening, the program continued at the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus, where Dr. Panagiotis Savva offered an insightful presentation on the history and culture of Cyprus, setting the tone for the educational and cultural journey ahead.

Throughout the program, the educators will participate in expert-led workshops, cultural immersion experiences, and educational visits throughout Cyprus. These experiences aim to enhance their teaching strategies and deepen their understanding of Hellenic identity, language, and heritage; resources they will bring back to their schools across the United States.

The Ministry of Education of Cyprus is providing accommodations, meals, and training, while Leadership 100 is generously funding the participants’ travel costs. This collaboration affirms a shared commitment to the preservation and renewal of Hellenic education in the diaspora.

Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Gregory Stamkopoulos, Director of the Department of Greek Education of the Archdiocese, stated:

“This collaboration strengthens the ties between our communities and equips our educators with invaluable experiences and resources. We are deeply grateful to the Ministry of Education of Cyprus and Leadership 100 for their support. I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, whose vision and unwavering commitment to Greek education have made programs like this possible.”
