King Charles III gave a speech, the guest of honor was French President Emmanuel Macron – but the star of the evening was Princess Kate. After the ceremonial state banquet at Windsor Castle, a picture of the 43-year-old in her red dress appeared on the front pages of several newspapers on Wednesday morning. The “Lady in red”, wrote the tabloid “The Sun”.
Public appearances by the Princess are not a matter of course now that her cancer treatment is over. She recently said that the road to recovery was a “rollercoaster ride” and that a “new normality” had to be found after a diagnosis. In January, Kate announced that she was relieved to be in remission.
The Princess played an important royal role during the French President’s state visit. Together with her husband, heir to the throne Prince William (43), she received Macron (47) and his wife Brigitte (72) on the airfield. She attended the state banquet in the evening at William’s side.
Many familiar faces at the palace
According to the BBC, Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, Elton John and former England international goalkeeper Mary Earps were also among the guests. The main course of the menu was fillet of Rhug Estate chicken with fine Norfolk asparagus and tarragon cream.
In his speech, Charles emphasized, among other things, the long history of both countries and their close relationship. “France is one of our strongest allies – and also a country to which my wife and I have great personal affection,” he said.
