Was it used as a creche or as some sort of community hub for arts &, crafts?
The only occasions I’ve ever noticed properties with similar madcap exterior paint work like the above – within otherwise residential areas was when they’d been converted to serve another purpose eg. Community hub, creche, drop-in center etc.
It’s not uncommon though for first time buyers trying to get on the housing ladder to buy fixer uppers. They’re affordable, they can be refurbished over time Vs new build turnkeys ( which are prohibitively expensive for first timers).
Iirc the property above has a very decent back garden too.. a bit of work required but (as much of a cliche as it is) potential for a nice homestead given time, refurbishment and care.
Will have been bought on a 35 year mortgage by some quirky couple in their early 20s and be a massive source of regret for them when they wise up a bit.
I’m sure a landlord will have it painted, on the rental market in 6 weeks. Homes under the hammer special.

It’s mostly a cosmetic disaster. A good builder could have his team strip all that shite out into a skip a day or two, and it probably wouldn’t cost too much to bring it around to a fairly half-decent standard in order to rent it out. I would be surprised if it was bought for over £100k

It was £119,950, I’d be interested to see the inside, too, because it was listed as ‘cash only’, there’s got to be something pretty fundamentally wrong with it, I’d have thought, if a bank wouldn’t lend on it.
I don’t usually go around diagnosing people with mental health issues, but I think we can all agree that the previous owner…***probably*** wasn’t all that mentally stable.
