The airport is asking passengers not to arrive too early for their flights as it deals with summer peak numbers.
Malta International Airport published passenger guidelines for the summer on Thursday so that operations in the busy season can run as smoothly as possible.
Discouraging early arrival is among the recommendations in the MIA’s summer traffic pattern advisory.
“Please arrive at the terminal no more than two hours prior to your flight’s scheduled departure time, unless advised otherwise by your airline,” the airport said in a statement.
The recommendations also advise passengers to check-in for flights online when possible, put liquids under 100ml in a plastic bag beforehand, have travel documents readily available, and monitor flight information regularly.
“Additional signage has also been installed throughout the terminal to guide guests
smoothly through the airport,” MIA said.
The recommendations come as Malta buckles up for the peak of the busy summer tourist season.
Almost a million people have already passed through the Malta airport in June. Numbers in July and August tend to be higher than that.
Last Month, 923,374 passengers travelled through Malta International Airport, with operations reaching their peak on June 26 when 35,571, roughly the size of St Paul’s Bay travelled on that day.
The United Kingdom remained the top contributor to passenger traffic, accounting for 22.4 per cent of total movements. Italy followed with a share of 20.2 per cent, ahead of Germany (7.4 per cent), Poland (7.0 per cent) and France (6.7 per cent).
