Ahoj!

I come from Poland and about two years ago I published a post here about my plans to go to Košice and record a film about Luník IX. It was my idea for a master’s thesis. Following the advice of other users, we explored the area for the first few days. Surprisingly, people were not hostile to us, but I think we were just lucky – they really liked my boyfriend’s tuned car xD

We talked with them at ease, of course refusing any financial support. Another surprise: they didn’t try to steal anything from us even though we had some expensive equipment. Actually, they were very nice and asked a lot of questions themselves.
We were able to talk to the residents of the estate, the Salesians, as well as the mayor of Luník.

After being depressed for a long time, I finally got down to writing my thesis and working on a film. One of the chapters of my work is about the attitude of Slovaks towards the Slovakian Roma. For this purpose, I created a survey. For the study to be fully reliable, I need as many answers as possible. I hope Reddit is the right place for this type of posts, because I don’t know too many Slovaks personally (actually I know two of them xD) and it’s hard for me to get people to fill in the survey.

I will be very grateful to you for taking part in the study. I am also open to your suggestions.

PS The content of the survey was based on online dictionaries, but I hope you can understand the meaning of the questions. If not, please correct me!

Also, of course, I invite you to discuss your experiences on this topic.

  1. Some of the questions are actually two questions that would require two answers, which is pretty weird for a questionnaire. Are we supposed to answer both?

“Do you live in Slovakia now? If yes how long?” Yes, XX years?

“Place of residence or number of inhabitants” like… what? Which one is it then?

“There are a lot of Roma people in Slovakia, more than in other countries”. This is ridiculous, answer to one could be “yes” and the other “no”.

Also, definitely shouldn’t pose questions that start with “Nemal by som problem” that offer answers yes/no, because they can be interpreted differently by different people. “I wouldn’t have a problem to become friends…” could both be answered “Yes, I wouldn’t have a problem” and “No I wouldn’t have a problem” and they’d mean the same thing. Double negative in Slovak is messy and can mean both positive and negative.

I’d clean this all up first, because parsing these answers will be a nightmare and the informative value of this survey will be zero. Correctly stating, interpreting and translating questions is extremely important when making surveys, as any ambiguousness will make them useless and return wild and invalid answers. If this is for your master’s thesis, your professor will tear you a new one for these questions.
