The Greater Lafourche Port Commission (GLPC) has acquired a 743-acre tract from the State of Louisiana to support the expansion of Argent LNG’s export development at Port Fourchon. The transaction was approved during the commission’s monthly board meeting on July 9.
The acquisition increases Argent LNG’s project site to approximately 900 acres. According to the port, the additional acreage will allow Argent LNG to optimize its facility design, improve logistics, and accommodate future phases of development.
Argent LNG’s project is designed to deliver up to 25 million tons per annum of liquefied natural gas, GLPC said in a statement. The company said it plans to use a modular construction approach. Additional storage and processing infrastructure will be included in the expanded lease area, which the port says will allow for future scaling of production.
GLPC said the acquisition is part of a broader agreement between Argent LNG, GLPC, and the State of Louisiana to establish an LNG export component at Port Fourchon, aiming to support local employment and diversification of the region’s energy portfolio.
Project development will continue with permitting, engineering, and early site preparation. Argent LNG plans to formally launch the project to the international market at Gastech 2025 in Milan, Italy.
“Location is everything when it comes to developing LNG infrastructure that can compete on cost, schedule, and reliability,” said Jonathan Bass, chief executive officer of Argent LNG. “Port Fourchon offers unmatched deepwater access, proximity to offshore and onshore energy services, and a community of stakeholders who understand how to execute at scale..”
