Denmark will provide €7 million over four years to strengthen Moldova’s defense capabilities. The announcement was made by Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen at a press conference in Chisinau, together with his Moldovan counterpart Anatolie Nosatii, IPN reports.
Troels Lund Poulsen said the funds will be directed towards military training, combating hybrid and cyber warfare. A roadmap will also be drawn up later this year which will set out future directions for cooperation between Moldova and Denmark.
The Danish minister said that the Danish military attaché will start working in the Republic of Moldova on November 1. He also underlined that Denmark is exploring ways in which, together with the Republic of Moldova, to provide the necessary support to Ukraine, with a particular focus on strengthening the resilience of the Republic of Moldova and its defense sector.
In his turn, Defense Minister Anatoly Nosatii said that the visit of the Defense Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark to Chisinau is an important gesture of solidarity, support for the development of institutions and promotion of peace in the region. He said that during the meeting with his Danish counterpart, he discussed the impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine and they condemned the aggression to which Ukraine is subjected. “Ukraine is resisting aggression, and this region is also protecting the Republic of Moldova”, Anatoly Nosatii added.
According to him, the war in Ukraine is also affecting the protection of the country’s airspace. The minister argues that Moldova remains exposed to unauthorized overflights and Russian drone strikes endanger citizens’ lives, homes and critical infrastructure.
Anatoly Nosatii added that thanks to the Partnership for Peace and Stability, the National Army servicemen will benefit from modern equipment, including simulators necessary for an efficient training process in accordance with international standards. Likewise, he said that he discussed with the Danish minister the extension of support for improving the quality of military education.
