Eight topics were decided for this debate. A draw was made to determine the order of the topics because the candidates could not agree on it.
The topics to be discussed are in the following order:
1. Purchasing power
2. International affairs
3. The welfare system (pensions, health, dependency)
4. Environmental issues
5. The competitiveness and attractiveness of France
6. The youth (education, training, etc.)
7. Security and immigration
8. The institutions.
# What are the other rules of the debate? What will it look like?
* Strict equality of speaking time
* Draws were also made to determine the order in which the candidates would speak: Marine Le Pen will answer the first question and Emmanuel Macron will be the first to conclude
* No shots showing the candidates’ parasitic gestures (scratching their nose, looking through their index cards, drinking water, etc.)
* The two candidates will be seated behind small desks on which they will be able to put their cards and also follow the counting of their speaking time. Emmanuel Macron will be on the left side of the screen and Marine Le Pen on the right, and they will face each other 2.5 m apart.
* No audience
* Miscellaneous facts: 23 cameras will capture the entire debate / Air conditioning will be set to 19°C / An emergency power generator has been installed to anticipate any problems.
# How did the candidates prepare themselves?
* **Marine Le Pen** knows that she has a revenge to take and has actively prepared for this debate. Relaxed agenda, thematic cards and notes, mock debates… The candidate has refined the final details “at home” surrounded by close advisers. “You know, the debate, we have been preparing it for 5 years, adds Philippe Olivier, close advisor of the candidate. “When she prepares her project, that she puts figures on it, she is already in this preparation.” The candidate of the National Rally will try to avoid reproducing the same mistakes as five years ago.
* On **Emmanuel Macron**’s side, they expect a Marine Le Pen “much better prepared” than five years ago. Since Monday, according to Le Parisien, the outgoing president has been preparing with his close circle. The program of the RN candidate has been dissected to identify its flaws. The challenge will be to deconstruct the image of a Marine Le Pen champion of purchasing power. It will be “project against project”, as the Macronists like to repeat. It is therefore not a question, a priori, of attacking the person of Marine Le Pen.
