  1. I personally don’t give a flying fuck what the holiday is about, I just want a day off. If they like, they can have introduce a day of jeeps for all I care, i just need a break from work and people.

  2. Why do they want to stoke division with policies like this?

Unless it is a one off, and net year it can be international men’s day.

  3. Just from the point of view of having a pleasant holiday I think 8 March is not optimal. Chances of having bad weather in Germany on 8 March are pretty high.

    Better candidates would have been

23 May (day when the German constitution was proclaimed)

17 June (day of the popular uprising against the SED regime in the GDR)

20 July (failed assasination attempt on Hitler)

  4. *”Wenn die Welt untergeht, so ziehe ich nach Mecklenburg, denn dort geschieht alles 50 Jahre später.”*

    Surprising to see this.

  5. I still remember my mother telling me that when she was young in the GDR, Women’s Day was always celebrated in a big way, and on that day, complete strangers would often come up to her and give her flowers and congratulate her on Women’s Day. She always found this very embarrassing and was glad when this behavior disappeared after reunification. I’ll have to ask her what she thinks of this new development. 😀
