Top Russian envoy Sergei Lavrov touched down in the North Korean mega resort city of Wonsan on the east coast Friday night ahead of “strategic talks” with his counterpart.
Lavrov arrived in Wonsan from Kuala Lumpur where he participated in ASEAN events and had a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Photos and footage released by the Russian foreign ministry and news agency showed that DPRK foreign minister Choe Son Hui wasn’t present at the welcoming ceremony at Wonsan, sending her deputy Kim Jong Gyu and other officials instead.
