I’m not sure I blame him, given the circumstances, but the heightened security measures are going to put off vulnerable people from meeting their MP, which is a bad thing, regardless of what you think of MPs.
Is that MP Mike ‘No one’s ever heard of me, but I’ll get on the news with a totally unnecessary comment about Amess’s death which gets me exposure’ Freer?
If that’s how you feel, Mr Freer, just wear your stab vest. Don’t advertise how unsafe you think this nation is after 12 years of your party in power.
Now my brain may work slightly differently but I’m not sure that announcing you will wear a stab vest is the best of ideas.
Now in the event of an attack you have publicised the fact your torso is going to be protected. Which if your attacked had a brain would lead them to attack an area that isn’t protected like your neck.
If you hadn’t told anyone then obviously they wouldn’t know and the vest would likely give you a few seconds where’s your attacker is attempting to stab a vest which could make all the difference between living and dying.
Obviously I hope nothing happens to him and it’s abhorrent that it’s even come to MPs feeling they need to take these measures but yeah I’d not personally go advertising the fact.
Why announce this? Now they’ll just aim for his neck or something.
