Two squads playing for pride round out their group stage schedule on Saturday, as Poland and Denmark meet up in UEFA Women’s European Championship action.

It has been a tough tournament so far for both countries, as Poland and Denmark have shown resilience in stretches, but simply do not have the depth and firepower to keep up with international powers Sweden and Germany, who will be battling it out for first place in Group C on Saturday.

The Danish squad has arguably had the two most heartbreaking results. The team fought hard against the Swedes on Matchday 1 last week but ultimately fell short, 1-0. Then, against the might Germans, Denmark led at halftime thanks to Amalie Vangsgaard’s goal in the 26th minute. However, two goals conceded in the second half ultimately proved to be the Danes’ undoing, resulting in a 2-1 defeat that led to the squad bowing out in the group stage for the second consecutive tournament.

Poland entered Switzerland as huge underdogs, especially since this is their first appearance at the Euros, and their first major international competition since the Algrave Cup six years ago. They had a tough time against Germany eight days ago before losing to Sweden, 3-0, on Tuesday.
