   The Ukrainian military will receive the first batch of long-range missiles capable of reaching military facilities deep in Russian territory, which will be produced with funding from Germany. The first delivery is expected by the end of this month, Bundeswehr Major General Christian Freuding said on ZDF.

   Equipping the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with missiles will be implemented within the framework of an agreement initiated by Germany between the companies of the Ukrainian military industry and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was signed in Kyiv on July 11. The German government also took over the financing of production, said Freuding, head of the situation center for Ukraine in the German Ministry of Defense, which coordinates military assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

   After the first delivery, “we will be talking about a large three-digit number” of missiles produced by Ukraine. This “will significantly strengthen the country’s capabilities in the coming weeks and months,” the general stressed. “We need weapons systems capable of penetrating deep into Russian territory and attacking warehouses, command posts, airfields and aircraft,” he added.

   What types of missiles will be produced by Ukrainian enterprises is not specified. However, according to Bild, the range of these weapons will be 2,5 thousand km, which will allow them to reach Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as military facilities beyond the Arctic Circle.

   At the end of May, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said at a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin that the two countries had agreed to jointly produce long-range missiles. The agreement involves the launch of production on the territory of Ukraine with German funding. These missiles will have no range restrictions, Merz noted at the time. As Politico clarified, the project will be funded by a military aid package from Berlin for 5 billion euros

3. Will Germany consider buying these Ukrainain made long range weapons, once the demand for this war is saturated? Why not, if they have capabilities similar to Taurus/Storm Shadow, at a fraction of their price? This could facilitate a rapid rearmament of the Bundeswehr.

   Ukraine’s scientific and engineering capabilities from Soviet times haven’t vanished yet. But funding was scarce since the breakdown of the Soviet Union. Only now foreign investments are flowing in to let Ukraine’s defence industry live up to its potential. And it will play a crucial role in NATO for decades.

5. Those will be fully UKR designed and domestically produced long-range missiles, funded by the German government. The level of sophistication of such systems will surely will be lower than what Taurus can do but since RuSSia has chosen a mass attack approach with their Shahed UAVs, inexpensive high number availability of counter-measures is key.

6. About time. Ukraine needs full support and a full range of capability. No dilly dallying by the West- full support and a full concentration of efforts by all democratic nations everywhere.

   There’re clearly saying these are Ukrainian missiles built by Ukraine, in Ukraine, as such they can do what they want with them…. Handing over the Taurus missile blueprint would help a bit more!
