King Charles hosts France’s Macron in first European state visit since Brexit • FRANCE 24 English

Britain’s King Charles is welcoming the French president Emanuel Macron to Windsor Castle today for the first state visit by European leader since Brexit in a trip aimed at celebrating the return of closer political ties between the countries. The grand ceremonial event for first for Macron who appears to enjoy something of a good personal relationship with the king. The last state visit to Britain uh by a French president was right back in 2008 when Nicolas Sarosi was a guest of the late Queen Elizabeth. Well, we’re going to cross live then to London, speak to our correspondent Eve Amarik who joins us from there. Ev, give us um the flavor, the pomp and the circumstance first of all about this. What does it all entail this state visit? Well, this is a rare privilege for a political leader to be invited by the king and queen. Um this is very much a celebration of it’s a symbolism. It’s a a celebration of the uh um of the new warmth of relations between the UK and France post Brexit. Of course, there will be pomp and circumstance. Although uh the uh it’s Prince William and uh Princess Kate who will welcome uh President Mah’s wife at the airport, it’s very much the king and the queen who will walk out of Windsor Castle to officially welcome them uh in the UK. Uh they will be uh offered President Mako and his wife will be offered uh to board uh carriage horses to uh tour around Windsor, the royal uh town of Windsor. There will be a military parade. There will be um lunch and then uh later on in the evening there will be uh a banquet a state banquet where both the king and the president will be expected to uh speak before 150 guests. Uh we had to decline the invit invitation because we France 24 reporters has to have to stay here outside parliament to keep you updated on the next part of the the visit this afternoon when the president president M comes to visit Westminster Abbeia here on my side and then speaks to both houses of parliament um behind me. Yeah, very colorful event I’m sure. But what what’s the point of it all? I mean there have as you say been stronger relationships between France and the UK perhaps under the UK’s new government there. Yes. The second and third day uh President Mar will stay most of the time will be hosted by the prime minister that will happen in Downing Street. There will be a working lunch and then there will be a full-blown uh summit uh French British summit with half a dozen ministers of each side. They will be discussing international issues that you can imagine. I’ve been on their menu that the both countries are facing and both countries are hoping to focus on the same on the same ones. That’s what we’re being told. There will be of course um you know the issues such as energy. There will be the war in Iran, the war in Gaza and there will be particularly uh um um summit that will start in Downing Street and will finish in the NATO uh command base in Northwood uh north of London where they will be discussing the um coalition of the winning uh to support Ukraine. There will be a video conference organized uh between the president and the prime minister from the NATO base with Rome where President Zilinski will uh and other leaders will be talking very much on these issues of European defense which of course is at the heart of this discussions you know France and the UK being the two uh main allies the two nuclear powers in Europe.   3. Maybe the King could adk for our money back as Macron has done nothing to stop the immigrants and been paid 77 million pounds . What a joke Labour are .
