Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside for a day of geocaching – GPS-powered treasure hunting – at Los Trancos Open Space Preserve. About 20 kids from the Coastside used handheld devices to explore the trails, discover hidden geocaches, and connect with nature in a whole new way.

“The geocaching event was truly fantastic!” said MidPen spokeperson Ryan McCauley. “Seeing all the smiling faces of the kids out in the sun was wonderful.

“As the day went on, their excitement for geocaching just kept growing, proving that blending technology with outdoor adventure is a powerful way to spark curiosity and a love for nature.

“There are infinite ways to enjoy nature, whether it’s a silent stroll among the trees, a rigorous hike up a mountain or participating in geocaching which is like a high tech treasure hunt. Anything that gets folks, especially youth, out in nature is a big win, not just for us but for the participants as well.”
