"The U.S. federal government earned $27.0B more than it spent in June, compared with the -$41.5B deficit expected and the prior month's -$316.0B shortfall, according to the Treasury Department's monthly statement released on Friday.
Last month's surplus pared the government's fiscal year-to-date deficit to $1.34T, surpassing the $1.17T deficit recorded over the same period a year earlier. The government's fiscal year ends Sept. 30."

Sure. Merchants pay the tax and pass the cost on to consumers. Instead of getting mad at the government, consumers get mad at the merchants. Perfect deflection strategy.
All I know is I ain’t buying anything for the foreseeable future. The Trump Admin can stick those tariffs right up their ass.
Actual headline: “American taxpayers fleeced for over $27 Billion in tariffs, above and beyond the original purchase price of said goods or services.”
It’s a tax. It’s that simple.
I don’t mind paying taxes, but do the rich even absorb any of this?
They buried the lead:
Last month’s surplus pared the government’s fiscal year-to-date deficit to $1.34T, surpassing the $1.17T deficit recorded over the same period a year earlier.
.17 trillion dollars = 170 billion dollars. So a deficit of slightly less than $1 B per day .
For some reason MAGA thinks “cuts” are actual savings. When all the public services stop working, people die: floods & plane crashes & lack of healthcare & nutrition. How much have we saved?
The BBB increased the debt ceiling by 5 trillion & I expect the GOP to spend it all.
Trump and his Republican bootlickers have perpetrated the largest tax increase on Americans ever.
Objectively, this good. Say what you want , balancing a budget or a surplus (albeit for one month), is tough.
Yes it’s a tax on consumers, yes this needs to play out longer.
*Unexpectedly*
Uh no, this was Trump’s plan the whole time 🙄🙄
That’s a funny way of saying, the poor people of America are now on the hook to eliminate the deficit instead of the wealth
The article also mentions that a significant portion of June’s payouts were instead payed in May due to the timing of the weekend. This is why June was a surplus.
It’s all the extra taxes (tariffs) we are paying. Too bad it hits the poor so much harder than the rich, and the rich are even getting extra tax cuts.
Cool, one month of surplus, I would still put money on every budget during this term to be higher than the 2019 or god forbid 2015 budget deficits. 100% guarantee that there will be zero budget surpluses at the end of the year.
Taco doesn’t care what the economy looks like. The whole point of this president is to enrich hisself, privatize public money and stay in power. Anything else is collateral.
