Lucas Coenen made some massive points up on Romain Febvre in the Finnish sand to really put the pressure on the Frenchman as the MXGP series hits the home straight.
In stark contrast to Millville with the big hills and intense atmosphere of fans pinned against the fences around the circuit, the KymiRing didn’t have the same aura with the fans who were there, all distant from the track action but skills of the riders were no less impressive on a very difficult sand circuit that could catch you out in a second.
Coenen, after dominating race one Herlings style, made a rare mistake in race two with a 13 second lead that saw him remount in the lead but then lose the lead to Calvin Vlaanderen before regrouping, getting his rhythm back and retaking the lead before keeping a motivated Romain Febvre at bay with the Frenchman seeing his points lead shrinking quickly!
At 18 years old Lucas is the guy to watch right now, oozing with talent and flow, he has all the momentum in MXGP. This kid is special, and he joined Toprak in WSBK, Marquez in MotoGP to all copy Jett Lawrence aura farming from last weekend. Coenen might be one of the few guys to have the raw talent and confidence to try an challenge Jett Lawrence on track and not just in celebration over the next ten years.

A happy Coenen, who went from 32 to 15 points back of Febvre and was going four seconds a lap faster a some points, said: “I was a bit angry because I always get second. On the break I switched off and then went back to the grind. I didn’t like that corner (he crashed in) and had an issue with my clutch I had to fix but I saw Romain and kept the win.”
Romain Febvre had a terrible start in race one and a crash didn’t help matters, that bad combination saw him take sixth but he regrouped for second in race two to stop the bleeding to a certain degree. Calvin Vlaanderen got on the podium with two strong rides but he nearly lost out to Glenn Coldenhoff who will be going home frustrated yet proud of his riding.
Coldenhoff holeshot and took second in race one in a great ride but came together with Ruben Fernandez on lap one of race two while fighting for second and it left the Dutchman last and a lot of work to do. But work he did with the Dutchman passing Geerts and Forato on the last lap to take fifth but that was still just short of a podium on the tiebreak and fourth overall was the best Glenn could manage under the circumstances with Andrea Bonacorsi fifth in a sand and showing great speed but he also got involved in that first lap carnage hurting his podium chances.

Kay de Wolf had the perfect weekend in Finland winning all three races and showing all the work in the break was worth it as De Wolf, probably had his best performance of the year to launch himself back into title contention as Simon Längenfelder had an average day with a 6-5 in the motos.
De Wolf worked his way into the lead in race one passing Adamo and Benistant to control the race, admitting he was even able to save some energy for race two in the heat. De Wolf had a similar moto as he caught and passed early race leader, Sacha Coenen for the win.
Coenen crashed in race one but came back through to fourth and with a very strong second in race two he still made the podium in third, that fighting spirit in full effect once again.
Adamo took third in race two for second overall with the Italian having a very strong weekend in the sand as he too makes points on Längenfelder as the MX2 world title looks like it could be a three-way fight to the end! Adamo is now 43 behind with De Wolf, 70 at the start of the weekend now 48 back with Lommel still to come,.
Thibault Benistant not known as a sand man but his sand skills were impressive in Finland fighting all day for a top three and just missing out with fourth overall.
