  1. Well, but that isn’t really fair, is it?

    Edit: Just kidding.

  2. **Poland’s oldest high school student has been awarded an honorary certificate after failing his final exams for the second year running.**

Józef Peruga from Kalisz, central Poland, hit the news on Wednesday after being told he had again flunked written exams in Polish, German and mathematics.

However, the 85-year-old’s story touched the hearts of the nation, and on Thursday he received a symbolic certificate of merit from the Mayor of Kalisz.

“All of Kalisz and Poland watched with admiration as you demonstrated that it’s never too late to learn and that dreams can be fulfilled at any age,” the mayor, Krystian Kinastowski, told Peruga.

“It’s an honor to have such a student in the city,” he added.

The certificate listed several categories, including perseverance, curiosity, willingness to learn and breaking generational barriers—and assessed Peruga as being ‘excellent’ in all.

Peruga looked visibly moved as he accepted the certificate in front of reporters.

    # ‘You’re simply a Sigma!’

On Facebook, the mayor later wrote: “Congratulations, Mr. Józef! You are a hero to all of Poland, but for this year’s high school graduates, you’re simply a Sigma!”

The post was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages.

“You’re an inspiration and a role model for us and future generations,” wrote one well-wisher.

“Each of these excellent grades is well-deserved, and more valuable than ‘classic’ grades,” wrote another.

Peruga has stated that he will re-sit his finals again, in the hope it will be third time lucky.

  3. He is surely not very bright if he is constantly failing those exams, even if he tried to pass it in his 80s. Cute story, but come on.

  4. He failed twice in a row. In every exam he partaken – scored not even half of what was required.
He is a good example of why older people shoudln’t have voting rights after certain age due to cognitive decline.

  5. Young brains can much more easily absorb information. I feel bad for the guy that some people here are treating him like an idiot

  6. This is an equivalent of people switching to English when you try to speak their language that you still learn.
