FSAI and Letterkenny EHO office got in touch with me to keep the specimen and product in question, which are safely stored in a freezer and they will take it off me in a few days.
Notified Tesco customer service via phone who told me that I need to bring in the product back to store, to which I’ve told the girl that I won’t do that because of the investigation and possible product recall.
Went to Tesco in Letterkenny, spoke with the main manager who was really great and apologetic, showed them photos and proof of purchase and I’ve got the refund.
They also took my details and manager told me they will need to escalate it to main office and to their supplier.
Product in question is own Tesco brand ‘Roasted Mixed Nuts Salted’ 200 grams bag.

Fair play man thanks for the follow up 🙏
Decent , but come here stop posting that pic around lunch time will ya…
How many did you eat before you noticed?
im now paranoid about eating nuts
Things I wish I never seen.. afraid to eat nuts now.
One nut or all the nuts? If it was one in a pack I would be okay with that, pests will always get into crops, peaches, apples both can have the odd maggot or two. Demand for 100% pest control is what drives the overuse of crop chemicals & treatments, I’d rather live in a world where an odd maggot is treated as an acceptable risk.
Thanks for the update as i was genuinely thinking about this gack photo just now. So glad you’re getting a proper investigation as it’s _mouldy_ to find that, bleedin Tesco
oh my god i used to eat these exact nuts before… thank god it’s been months and months
None of this adds up?
Why is Ray Donovan shopping in Letterkenny?
You should get Joe Duffy out of retirement for one last job.
This whole story is nuts
Christ almighty this has really ruined a bag of nuts for me now, yuck! 🤮
Sweet merciful Jesus that’s wrank. Thanks fot sharing dude
In my experience, the FSAI and local council inspectors do not fuck around, but equally they are pragmatic – anything can get contaminated so once the appropriate controls are in place they’re quite reasonable with stores/restaurants.
If you’re ever hesitant about reporting, don’t be – they don’t shut places for once-off fuck ups or the like.
is that one MASSIVE nut? (or very small maggots?)
Ah ya, nobody local to that store will care really – the manager would have been concerned if it was something out of date, from their deli/bakery section, or improperly stored in their store.
The peanut issue is with suppliers/depots/factory, so they’re not going to be sour because that store will take none of the internal blame for the issue.
The problem will roll uphill from Letterkenny’s perspective.
Hope your wife is feeling a bit better, that was some shock.
You ruined nuts for everyone who read/saw yesterdays post. Ireland is a darker place for it and may God have mercy on your soul
Thanks OP for actually doing something other than binning it and complaining. Sincerely!
Good for you!
Hopefully it won’t be too long until your wife recovers and can suck on nuts again.
I got a bag of rice from them some months ago. It was smelling of mould, I didn’t realise until cooking and as soon as it came to boil I smelled the rancid, mouldy smell.
Got in touch with Tesco and they told me to bring in the rice to them, I rarely shop there and the bag was couple of quid so I basically told them no as it’s a waste of fuel and my time and effort for that. I offered to give them the batch codes and all photos of it but they didnt want that. So I just threw the rice away and decided not to buy from them again.
Did you notice it straight away or only after biting into the nut? Was it hidden in other words?
I’m literally looking at a packet of these on my desk as I type, straight back to the shop with them
Please post it on r/whatsthisbug be nice to know what horrors you have found .
Reminds me of that part of Family guy where Peter says “Guys the milk might not be milk, I’m a horse breeder now” and Stewie pauses for a second and eats it anyway”
That’s me with a big old bag of Manhattans now. Cheers OP.
Oh nooooo, I didn’t see your original post & have a bag of those in my press… going to very gingerly open them later on.
Hey,
I want to chime in here.. I just want to say that in Italy there is a cheese that is a delicacy.. the cheese is infested with live wriggling maggots, you can only eat the cheese if the maggots are alive.. if the maggots are dead the cheese is not good to eat..
Sure it’s almost dinner time now.. I’m thinking a small charcuterie board.. some nice meats and select cheese 😊
This is why I don’t eat in the dark
