Pope Leo XIV may extend his stay at
Castel Gandolfo, the traditional papal summer residence he has
reopened after it was turned into a museum by his predecessor
Francis, by a couple of days until next Tuesday, ANSA sources
said Monday.
The US-born pontiff is reportedly enjoying the quiet and natural
setting of the lakeside village, a cool hilltop refuge from the
fierce Roman summer heat, where he celebrated Mass and the first
Angelus on Sunday, and he may extend his stay by a couple of
days, returning to the Vatican on Tuesday the 22nd instead of
Sunday the 20th, as officially announced.
Monday was a day of complete rest for the pope, who is also a
Peruvian citizen due to his long missionary charity work there.
There were no appointments, not even the usual ones.
It was still a busy idleness, however, as is obligatory for a
pope, especially since Leo is preparing for one of the most
important events of his pontificate so far, namely the double
meeting with the world’s Young People as part of the mega
gathering at Tor Vergata for their Jubilee, from July 28th to
August 3rd.
