  1. Imagine getting invaded because you liked the Pope too much

  2. Not much has changed, now Europe invades Ireland for not being diverse enough

  3. To be honest, Cromwell was a little unhinged….

Religious fundamentalism isn’t great in any religion…

  4. harbouring cavalier remnants who were trying to organise a French invasion of England had something to do with it

  5. 1690: England invades Ireland for being too Catholic *again,* but this time with the Pope’s backing.

  6. There’s a reason we put all the religious nuts in boats and sailed them to the “new world”

Not looking like the best idea about now…

  7. No

England invaded Ireland because ireland sided with the tyrant Charles

  8. 2025 it’s Muslims that we should be worrying about.

  9. I’m English and can confirm we like the Irish to be a medium amount of Catholic.

  10. Both events were separated by ~500 years. 500 years ago, King Henry the 8th was the reigning monarch. A lot can happen in 500 years …

  11. Ill point out that England had itself been conquered and colonised in 1066 (one of the excuses for the invasion being we weren’t Catholic enough) and I dont think its rulers can be called English until Henry IV, seeing as every King between Harold and Henry spoke French in their courts… so blame the french/normans for 1169

We can take the blame after 1400 though
