WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Sacred Space Counseling Center is offering free services to anyone directly impacted by the Central Texas floods.
The team at Sacred Space didn’t need to be told; they said they could feel the heartbreak unfolding across the region as the emotional impact is lingering long after the floodwaters have receded.
In times like this, trauma and grief are present, more than just the basics.
“When we face a crisis of this magnitude in the initial shock, we need our physical needs to be taken care of. We need spiritual supports, and we also need just our community to show up, “ Sacred Space Counseling Center Supervisor and License Professional Counselor Brandi Smith said.
At Sacred Space Counseling Center, meeting survivors where they are is one less burden for families trying to rebuild.
The center is offering free counseling sessions to those personally affected, helping them process trauma and grief.
Supervisor Brandi Smith says grief looks different for everyone.
“The grief that individuals face is always an individual process. Grief is like a dotted line. It just means that you’re trying also to function within your day-to-day life in the best ways that you know how,“ Smith said.
Sacred Space Counseling Center creates flexible care plans tailored to each person’s needs and for those looking to help, Supervisor Brandi Smith encourages the community to get creative.
“There may be opportunities where maybe there aren’t free services but if you want to practically help someone it might be to say let me take care of counseling for you know a certain number of sessions for your child. Let me take care of that for your family and so there’s lots of different creative ways that we can provide support during this time,“ Smith said.
