Motorola Solutions has been selected to provide 13,400 body cameras to Bulgaria’s National Police Service as part of a nationwide initiative to enhance transparency, real-time awareness, and safety in law enforcement.
The V500 body cameras will be deployed with Motorola’s VideoManager evidence management software, allowing police officers to upload, securely store, and manage video footage as part of their daily workflows.
Digital policing
Bulgaria’s Ministry of the Interior aims to integrate the body cameras across the entire National Police Service, supporting greater transparency and efficiency in police operations while modernising how officers interact with command staff and the public.
These new body cameras are a pivotal element in our digitalisation strategy to modernise policing and elevate how we safeguard and serve our communities. This investment underscores our commitment to promoting trust and transparency in our law enforcement operations while enhancing the real-time visibility and collaboration between our officers in the field and our control room personnel. We’re proud of these significant steps forward in creating a safer Bulgaria for everyone to enjoy.
The V500 cameras feature LTE connectivity and integrate with the MXP600 TETRA radios, which are already used by Bulgarian police officers for voice communication. The integration permits officers, through the press of an emergency button on their radios, to call for backup while also streaming live footage to control rooms. This provides multiple streams of information and greater situational awareness for command staff coordinating police response.
The deployment is designed to address both internal police requirements and wider community expectations about transparency and accountability in policing. With live field intelligence available to control rooms, leadership can monitor events as they unfold, making operational decisions based on real-time information.
Operational support
In supplying the technology, Motorola Solutions highlighted the operational benefits for police officers working in challenging environments. Axel Kukuk, Vice President, Sales Europe at Motorola Solutions, stated:
Front-line teams often operate in high-stress environments where their focus must remain entirely on the situation at hand. Body cameras enable eyes-on-scene for greater clarity as events unfold, while helping to create a reliable and accurate record of critical events. Bulgaria’s nationwide deployment is yet another exemplary model for how this technology can drive safer and more secure outcomes for all.
The body cameras and associated VideoManager software are intended to support existing workflows and streamline the handling of digital evidence. This system will allow the National Police Service to manage video documentation efficiently and securely, complying with procedures and fostering greater trust in law enforcement processes.
Broader European context
With this deployment, Bulgaria joins other European countries that have adopted Motorola Solutions’ body camera technology. These include the French National Police and Gendarmerie, the Lithuanian Border Guard Service, police forces from several German federal states, and public safety agencies across the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Romania.
The integration of live video footage and secure evidence management forms part of a growing trend in European policing, where technology is increasingly relied upon for both operational efficiency and public transparency.
The Ministry of the Interior’s investment in body-worn cameras is intended to support not only officer safety and organisational accountability, but also public confidence in law enforcement’s oversight and service delivery.
