  1. How can anyone in gov in their right mind try to justify any kind of cuts or tax increase when we’re paying this much for afghans?

  2. These are people who did, or tried to, help during our invasion of their country. I have no issue with this spending, even if it’s not efficiently spent.

  3. How about “Covert rescue operation saves thousands of Veterans” for a headline?

  4. they’re veterans who helped the british army during the afghan war

    stop with the bullshit headlines

  5. Good. We should help all those that risked their lives to help our military whatever the cost.

  6. These afghans have done more for British military than most of the commenters ever can, will, or have so I think they should keep their nose out. I mean I can’t say I agree with the Afghan war but these people helped out troops in that country regardless

  7. Afghanistanis have the highest rate of sexual offences per capita in the UK of any nationality. This is not going to end well.

  8. We need to remember the people we were fighting with raped young men and children, have backwards views in relation to females and carried out extra judicial killings that make the SAS look like girl scouts. I’d hope for a robust risk assessment of all those coming but doubt that happened.

  9. Yeah no issue here, these are people who risked their lives for the security of our country. We owe them this much at least.

  10. Well of course – they are being relocated here because they were roped in as proxies in our bullshit war in Afghanistan and are now legitimately claiming asylum.

  11. Let’s hope the MoD didn’t send the warning letters out to Afghanistan in MoD stationary ?!

  12. How does one spend £1m per Afghan for a one-way RAF flight and some accommodation?

Which Tory donor is receiving the money for this?

  13. I mean is that really a huge secret we took Afghans? Was pretty obvious no?

These headlines are so missleading, these people were the ones helping us.. ofc we should relocate them here.

  14. > The breach occurred in February 2022, when Boris Johnson was prime minister, but was only discovered by the British military in August 2023.

    Ah what a surprise

  15. Why is it a secret? We left these people to rot after they helped us ruin their country. The scandal was leaving them there to their fate, not finally doing the right thing by them. So why is doing the right thing a scandal or is this a purpose leak look at us fixing the mistakes of the past?

  16. As they should so many afghans risked their and their families lives helping the uk only to get abandoned

  17. I mean I can’t tar everyone with the same brush, 7000 people is a lot, and people are naturally colourful in their ways. However many years ago circa 2011 I was getting a taxi somewhere and the bloke that picked me up wasn’t the usual taxi driver I was used to. He didn’t carry that same vibe you know? We got talking and it was one of the most interesting taxi rides of my life.

This bloke he called himself Azis was from Afghanistan and had been in the UK for 4 months under some sort of scheme for working with the British Army over there as a translator, pay off for working with them was British citizenship. He got medically discharged after being blown up by an IED along with some British troops and another translator, I cant remember the specifics of his injuries but I remember they were significant. Crazy life story too, he had a chilled life in his village working on his dads farm, the Taliban started moving in and mostly left them alone until one night he woke up to gun shots and explosions, as he ran to get his wife and kids to safety he heard a massive boom, shit everywhere, couldn’t hear anything or see anything by this time his wife and kids were out of the house and when the dust settled and he got his bearings back there was a huge hole in the side of his house and in his words “my horse was in 4 separate my pieces, my fucking horse, I loved that horse so much, kaista kaista”, turns out his dad had a disagreement with the taliban over some of the harvest so they executed his dad, his mother, his brother and he assumed they intended to take him out too because there was also a massive hole in his bedroom wall right where his wife and him were sleeping.

Cut a long story short he was pretty funny, stoic and I generally took a liking to him as a person, he wasn’t bothered about his dad dying because he said his dad was a cruel asshole and made him work too many long hours, and was more sad about losing his horse than his dad, but was upset at losing his mother brother and horse and that basically spurned him to help the UK and US troops over siding with the taliban. Bloke was 20 years old when all this kicked off, was fascinating and eye opening. I told him he needed to write a book. He loved the UK and the humour and the people and even the weather as he said he prefers it cool as he grew up in the mountains and said if it wasn’t for his wife he wanted to become a Christian.

So in terms of this settlement scheme, I assume if its a MOD database that’s been leaked, it’s Afghans who have worked with the British army in some capacity, and I respect that you know? I wish them all the best and hope they’re safe here and are similar in attitude and morals to Aziz, who I still think about to this day

  18. 100k afghans applied, and they leaked the data while vetting them which means they’re going to just allow them in unvetted?

£7 billion to house them in your town.

On top of that, the MoD used a superinjunction so that the only MPs aware were the speakers of both houses? I don’t think one part of government should be hiding stuff from other parts of the government, resettling tens of thousands of people at the cost of billions, mental

  19. A million pounds per person doesn’t seem like an efficient way of doing anything……
