How about a neutral Swiss solution? South Tyrol would become part of predominantly German-speaking country of Switzerland, but part of Canton Ticino, thus still being under Italian-speaking administration.
The Ticinesi can improve their German and the Tiroler can work on their Italian. Win-Win-WIN solution.

Speak for yourself, I love my Südtiroler! They are like an improved version of the Schluchtenscheißer to their North (which isn’t that much of an achievement to be honest).
Loved that place, felt like I was in a parallel universe. I will never forget ordering sauerkraut and putting it in the top of my pizza, it was magnificent.
Minorities in other European countries: get culturally genocide in a spam of two generations.
Minorities in Italy: get full benefits, have their language as the main administrative lingo and don’t have to pay taxes to the central government.
The fact that people in alto Adige are still complaining is baffling at best.
This post triggers both Italian jealousy and Germanic patriotism. I’m not sure which one is more worrisome.
