West Indies set an all-time low as Australia broke a 137-year-old record in Jamaica

Australia rewrote the records while the West Indies fell to an all-time low during the Third Test of the Frank Worrell Trophy as the Pat Cummins-led side completed a 3-0 whitewash with a stunning 178-run victory at the Sabina Park in Jamaica during a pink-ball Test.
After a low-scoring clash with pacers enjoying a field day, the West Indies batters were humiliated by Australia’s legendary pace quartet. The hosts were bowled out for just 27 with Mitchell Starc taking a six-wicket haul on his 100th Test while Scott Boland got a hat-trick.
Australia Set Multiple World Records As West Indies Hit Embarrassing Low
West Indies’ tally of 27 is the second-lowest in Test cricket history, just one more than New Zealand’s all-time record (26) set in 1955 against England. This is the lowest team total in a pink-ball Test match as well as the fewest runs a team has managed against Australia. The previous record (36) was jointly shared by South Africa (1920) and India (2020).
Seven West Indies batters were dismissed for a duck, marking the first instance of the same happening in a Test innings. Previously, there were nine instances of six ducks in a Test innings.
West Indies’ top six batters managed to make just six runs, which is the lowest in history. Infact, this is the first instance of a team’s top six managing to make less than 10 runs in an innings. The previous record for the lowest aggregate runs made by the top six of a team belonged to Australia (12 runs) and was set against England 137 years ago in 1888 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Through the course of the innings, Starc set the record for the fastest five-wicket haul (15 balls) in a Test innings while also becoming the first bowler to complete a five-for within the first overs. Meanwhile, Boland took the first-ever pink-ball hat-trick in the longest format.
