Hochstenbach will continue until at least 2031
The Dutch conductor Jochem Hochstenbach has successfully renewed his contract as General Music Director of Germany’s Theater Trier and will remain in the post until 2031. He began his time in Trier at the opening of the 2018/19 season.
As guest conductor, Hochstenbach has appeared with the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz, the Badische Staatskapelle in Karlsruhe, to Schloss Esterházy (in particular with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Vienna, Sinfonia Varsovia, Camerata Salzburg, the Slovak Philharmonic and the Pannonian Youth Symphony Orchestra), the BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestre national Avignon-Provence, and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, among others.
He has also appeared in various locations, including Italy, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
Originally a pianist, Hochstenbach studied conducting with Uros Lajovic at the Vienna College of Music, before pursuing masterclasses with figures including Jorma Panula, Erwin Acel, and Kenneth Montgomery. He worked as the assistant to Claudio Abbado at the 1995 Salzburg Easter Festival and made his debut at the Landestheater Linz.
“I am happy and grateful that Jochem Hochstenbach can continue his successful work in the theater,” said Wolfram Leibe, the Lord Mayor of Trier. “As you saw at the last picnic concert, he leads the orchestra with the right view for a high musical quality and a good selection of programs for a wide audience.”
“I am very grateful for the trust in my work,” Hochstenbach said. “It is a great pleasure and honor for me to continue to create music for an open and enthusiastic audience together with the wonderful orchestra and the theater of the city of Trier — a city in which I like to live.”
