I would gift this article if I could. But the headline pretty much says it all.
Trump is ceding this whole economic sector to China. It's gobsmackingly stupid.

Yes, it is gobsmackingly stupid.
That basically defines all of conservatism and Trumpism.
If you set out to purposely design an economic policy that would hurt the US the most, it would look a lot like Trumpism.

The US is literally an idiocacy.
TBF we were already losing, but had aspirations to compete. With this regime, it’s game over. Not just clean energy.
Don’t you know batteries and solar are gay?
So, so dumb. Don’t understand why people don’t want to move into this massive new energy sector in the 21st century.
I know this is the energy sub, but he’s losing biotech quickly to China as well (I’m in the space).
Moron (or intentional sabotage, I can’t figure out which).
China already won the battle on solar panels, batteries – manufacturing generally. I disagree with a lot of Trump’s policies and I think take advantage of their cheap costs, but I don’t think America was going to “beat them” in any way on a lot of their tech advantages regardless of the Administration. Part of the problem is how influential oil and gas producers are to the economy and in the government.
This is more or less common knowledge. We’ve also just flushed primary and secondary education, and health care. The current administration is looting the treasury and leaving an empty shell behind them.
Trump knows he’s on a deadline. He’s grabbing everything (he’s looting the GOP election fund too) and getting out of town before 2026.
We’re looking at the sacking of America. This energy issue is just a single symptom.
While oil, insurance companies and Isreal control US policy we will slowly regress into a third world nation.
What trump is doing is destroying the sectors where we had a chance to be (or were) leaders because he doesn’t understand, well, pretty much anything.
Yup.
But EVs and wind turbines are technology of the modern day. He and his cultists want to restore the 1950s.
You cant lose what you were never really in to begin with. Id imagine we have made little progress compared to other developed nations?
Well, if you bank on “clean coal” – you have lost from the beginning.
>At a Cabinet meeting last week, Trump called wind and solar energy “a blight” on the country. “They hurt our country very badly,” he said. “And smart countries don’t use it.”
I’m really surprised the rapist with 34 felony convictions is such a moron. /s
Would it help to confuse the Chinese if we run away more?
Republicans screwed America on this market. They literally gave it away.

Probably not a bad thing the GOP is killing EV sales in the US though. With their all out war against anything renewable and the onslaught of AI datacenters we are having a hard time meeting the electricity needs of the country anyway and new coal power plants take years to build.
And just like the BBB tax hits will gradually kill the low-income folks over the next 10 years, we will gradually see China grow stronger and stronger in EV and solar – replacing US companies and jobs – after Trump is long gone and forgotten.
Trump wants America to be dependent on Putin’s oil.
It is gobsmackingly stupid, but it is hilarious watching the US elite continually kick the country in the nuts over and over again, and we just take it and whine about it… and some of us are even celebrating and cheering it on ‘Yeah! Kick us in the nuts again!’.
It’s China’s world now.
With Trump at the helm we are losing more than the energy battle
Not only energy, Trump’s 1970s mindset will damage many more areas of the economy. Targeting all immigrants destroys our labor pool, tariffs will raise the price of consumer goods, and the anti-healthcare initiatives will lead to a sicker population. Oh, and targeting education means we’ll have a stupider population.
Trump’s America First policy is really America in isolation, betting that we don’t need commerce with the rest of the world to succeed, setting us on a course to be an economic backwater with North Korean style closed borders.
Because we have too many dinosaurs in elected offices.
It’s what you (plural) wanted…Americans could always be bought for cheap gas and nothing has changed on that front.
If our fossil fuels enemies’ goal is to wall off the US as a last market for oil and gas, while tightening borders to keep out refugees from countries being baked by them, would you still say these companies are “losing”?
Excellent article with updated stats. A good read.
