New data shows Italy is by far the EU’s largest consumer of air conditioning, followed by Greece, France and Spain

shocking news : southern Europe has warmer climate than the north.
I proudly installed three systems in Italy this year
Wow, you telling me that the hottest countries use the most AC?
Damn, who would have thought of that, unbelievable!
next you’ll tell me water is wet
Shit is hot, yo.
Is it a typo and they meant “hair conditioning”?
France before Spain, really?
Surprised that Germany isn’t much lower on the list, don’t know anyone who was an AC. Hope there will be laws in the future that will allow people who rent to install an AC no matter what the landlord says. Portable ACs are better than nothing but rather impractical. I live on the ground floor and my bedroom window faces the sidewalk, I really don’t wanna keep my window open at night to run the hose through it.
Not that surprising really, since even in Poland the AC I installed last year is literally saving my life. Heatwaves can get unbearable – that bloody Sun is attacking my flat all day long, wakes me up in the morning and then, around midday, proceeds to turn my living room into an oven; fun all day long from both sides – so it was a very good investment.
If Greece didn’t hide AC remotes from the tourists, they could get first place 😂
Considering that it is at least 30 degrees in northern Italy from April to October, it is a necessary investment. I have a fully air-conditioned house plus fans. Otherwise it is impossible
Literally the most meaningless data I’ve seen today. It’s literally absolute numbers. Of course the largest southern European country consumes more AC.
Absolutely. It’s crucial to have AC. Life is miserable without it half the year. But the thing about AC is that it’s also pretty decent in the winter. If temps are not subzero you can keep a house warm with the same AC that cools it down in the winter, and often for less money than you’d pay for oil or gas to heat up the house with radiators. So the range of temperatures that an AC is useful in is actually pretty big.
Türkiye #2 🇹🇷🇹🇷👊

This is so stupid
This is a shocker. And here I was sitting in Sweden, thinking norhtern Swedes consumed by far the most air conditioning in Europe.
* surprised Pikachu
Special shoutout to all the Italian kids who spent their summers visiting grandparents in the south before everyone had air conditioning.
Growing up in Romania, my first ever job was installing AC in the 2000. Now I live in Switzerland and I’m very surprised it’s almost inexistent
Coming up next: Study shows northern Europe as largest consumer of central heating in the winter
Portugal isn’t on the list because we can’t afford AC with our shitty wages.
And water is wet? As long there’s no stupid rhetoric about forcing them to use less or not at all… it’s totally not fair to expect them to deal with this sort of heat.
Hot places buying and run Aircondition the most? I would never guess that./s
Obviously, i wonder what kind of investment Italy has in solar energy? [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_in_the_European_Union](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_in_the_European_Union)
New data shows centuries old maps of Europe’s position to the equator are actually correct.
It’s the combination of climate change and aging real estate. Despite everything, Italy has inefficient homes mainly, and all workplaces have AC running 24/7. I work in a public place myself, and we all have the air conditioning on full blast. If it’s too cold, we mostly open the windows. However, about 50% of homes have air conditioning, so don’t assume that it’s something that all homes have. This consumption also depends largely on indiscriminate use, not strictly domestic, and the inefficiency of a large part of homes.
Yeah. Tell me about it.
I’m an airbnb host (in Sardinia) and guess how much disappointed my lasts guest’s (from northern europe) were when they found out my AC’s were out of order because of condensation leaking?
It’s fucking boiling here, guys and gals!
By the way, we use a lot less heating in winter time. What is this bullshit?
Was talking to some Brits the other day. They told me that it was so hot in their home and complained about the 26C. I was kinda shocked as 26C is the norm when I turn on my AC in Athens while without it my living room gets to 35C.
Sicily without AC in the summer is fucking torture.
Reading this with my ac on here in northen italy
Croatia could be first but it is against the law to run air condition more than 15 minutes a day.
Ac doesn’t exist in france. Sorry to deceive you
Southern European countries have more air conditioning. I find that hard to believe Zebedee.
Monsters..
In countries like Portugal, you need to sell the house just to pay for the electricity bill.
EU: *surprised Pikachu face*
– Proceeds to slap a tax for being bad to the environment –
Me chilling in my room with the ac at 23c because it is unbearable otherwise
Europe has more heat related deaths than America has gun deaths every year. Good on Italy for finally accepting decades old technology and preventing useless deaths through the magic of air conditioning!
how dare you!!!!
Ursula should ban AC!!!
France moreso than Spain?
WOW! How shocking! The countries in Europe that are closer to the Equator are hotter than the ones that aren’t?!?!
I mean it is hot af down there. What did you expect?
how do they consume it? do they put it in pasta or pizza or sth?
Oh you wasteful southern Europeans… here in the north we suffer through our hot summers without needing a AC because we don’t want to waste our planets resources.
