On July 16, 2025, State Police of Saratoga with the assistance of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Werkneh H. Hayes, 19 of Albany, NY for Robbery in the third degree and Grand Larceny in the fourth degree.
On July 15, 2025, at about 10:58 p.m. Troopers responded to a gas station on Round Lake Road in Malta, NY for the report of a robbery. The investigation determined Hayes allegedly entered the store and demanded money from the cashier while threatening to harm them. Once he received the money Hayes reportedly fled in a vehicle. No weapon was displayed during the incident.
Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office located the described vehicle and stopped it on Middle Line Road in Ballston, NY where they took Hayes into custody. No other individuals were involved or were located in the vehicle and the stolen money was recovered.
Hayes was transported to SP Saratoga for processing. He was arraigned at the Malta Town Court where he was released on his own recognizance. Hayes was then turned over to the Mechanicville Police Department for a similar but unrelated crime.
