  1. Druze city? Isn’t it part of Syria? Is Israel already working on creating Greater Israel now?

    It feels like Israel is getting worse day by day and out of control. Arabs really did fuck up their future by trusting Europeans since Ottoman times.

    at the end of the day this is a violation of syrian sovereignty and an internal matter that needs to be settled hopefully through diplomacy internally.

  3. And if they withdraw, the strikes will still happen.

    Trusting the Israelis would require the Syrians to be as stupid as the Israelis, and the fact that the Syrians can prosecute a war without billions of dollars in aid suggests otherwise. 

    The Syrian military is already inside Suweida, strikes aren’t going to convince them to disengage- they’re close enough to their opponents that Israeli bombs are equally dangerous to everyone.

    The Israelis don’t have much leverage in this situation, but you can’t expect them to understand that. 

  4. So I am critical of Israel over Gaza as most people are but they are not wrong in this case. The Druze have been under attack since the fall of Assad and this so called ex-terrorist that is leading Syria has so far not shown that he will protect these vulnerable groups.

  6. Very complex situation overall and unfortunatelly telling of the HTS gov’t. The Syrian defense forces side against the people who were brutalized just a few weeks ago is not a good sign, and in fact its essentially right out of assads sectarian playbook, the one that says “Get the sects to fight themselves and clean up the mess”

    I don’t like Israel at all but I think people are looking at this very one dimensionally. I don’t support airstrikes, I think this is bad diplomacy and really just stops Syria from being able to stabilize the province, whatever that meant. You don’t use tanks on people if you were trying to cause mass violence, they’re kind of like horses, they tell people “hey go away”. Israel equally looks like they’re inciting violence by bombing the heavy armor syria would use to scare the soft human armor into their homes. But Israel has reason to be worried about a state that has historically had been a trade route for terror against their own people.

  8. I am a big critic of Israel. And I don’t trust their intentions here. They may well try to annex these parts of syria under the guise of humanitarian protection.

    But I am happy if anyone protects a minority from a massacre.

    The US and Israel assist the founder of Syria’s branch of Al-Qaeda to topple the existing Syrian dictator. They then tell the world the founder of Syria’s Al-Qaeda is no longer a terrorist, and he’s going to be better for peace in the region!

    Suddenly, the “former” terrorist leader allegedly starts killing minorities along the border of sovereign Syria and the illegally occupied Golan Heights. Now Israel just *has* to drop bombs, and eventually create a *new* “buffer zone”

    And y’all were acting like this wasn’t the plan all along. Destabilize the region, foment violence, then use that as cover for more mass killings and territorial expansion.

  11. The second the “war” ends the Netanyhu government is going to get voted out, likely by extreme margins. So they must make sure the “war” never ends.

    This is what happens when a rogue state with the backing of most powerful economy in the world has none of their norms breaking behavior checked.
