Trump erased from Chelsea’s celebratory photos at FIFA Club World Cup? • FRANCE 24 English

Charlotte, good to have you with us. You are focusing tonight on recent developments in the world of football, specifically a rumor alleging that Chelsea edited Donald Trump out of their celebratory photo at the Club World Cup final. Tell us more. Yes, Sharon. The rumor comes after some accused Trump of crashing Chelsea’s lifting of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup trophy after the team’s 3-0 win over Paris Sanjaman. Now, normally the lifting of the trophy is a moment reserved for players and staff members of the winning team. But Trump did not leave the stage with Infantino, the FIFA president, as a standard procedure. Instead, he pretty much took front and center. Now, to give our viewers some more context, I’d first like us to take a look at the video that captures that moment. Chelsea Football Club. So, as we saw there, Infantino appears to usher Trump off the stage, or at least try to. And there’s a little moment of confusion with the players before they finally lift the trophy. Now, Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer later admitted that he was a bit confused by Trump’s presence at those victory celebrations. Now, as you say, Sharon, in the days following the match, a rumor has surfaced online that Chelsea edited Trump out of those victory celebration photos. We can see one example of somebody who’s taken to X to make this allegation. And as you can see here, two photos side by side, Trump is notably absent from the one on the left. Now, this user alleging that Trump refused to leave the stage even after they were practically pushing him away. So, Chelsea photoshuffed him out of their official trophy raising photo. Now, this has amassed 2.7 million views. Another similar claim from someone here who is exclaiming they erased him. and another person taking X also dubbed this alleged erasing as Chelsea’s subtle way of showing Trump was not welcome at the celebration. Another person who has spread this rumor online is Morgan J. Freeman. He’s a filmmaker and prominent um he is a f fervent Democrat and he again has posted these two photos side by side with Trump absent on the left. Sharon. So, what is the truth then, Charlotte? Did Chelsea really out edit Donald Trump out of that photo? No, they did not. So, the photo that I just showed you where Trump is apparently erased appears to have been generated using AI and we believe that it originated from a user on Reddit. Now, very importantly, it was not shared by Chelsea’s official accounts on social media. Now, if we do look at Chelsea’s official account on the platform X, we can see with a still here of the video that we saw earlier, Trump is very much there. Trump also appears in photos shared by some of the players, such as this one here. What some people are picking up on though is the fact that on Chelsea’s Instagram account and in other photos shared by the football club, Trump is taking a much less prominent position in the picture, you can see him here in this official Instagram post. He’s just peeking out from behind the players. So, really not as visible as in that video that I showed initially. Now, some have um viewed this as an apparent snub by Chelsea to the US president. That’s certainly what this person who has commented here. They’ve said as an American, “Thank you for picking a pick where Trump can barely be seen.” Now, whether or not this is a, you know, intentional, subtle snub from the football team, we will never know. What is certain though, Sharon, is the fact that there was a lot of backlash of um against Trump’s presence at that match. And um in a video that I’m about to show you, there was a lot of booing when Trump appeared on the screens in the football stadium. Let’s take a listen. So, as we can hear there, Trump met with a scattering of views when his image was broadcasted around the stadium. Some people also very annoyed that Trump appeared to pocket a medal from the winning team. In as we can see in this video, as we see, Infantino gives him the thumbs up to imply that he’s okay with that. But this person on X takes a very different stance calling Trump a felon. So whilst those rumors that I discussed at the beginning are false, the backlash Sharon against Trump’s presence at that match very much um real and uh palpable as I say during those uh booze we heard earlier.
