Latvian operator Bite is continuing the phased shutdown of its 3G network, announcing that four regions will be affected this week as part of its ongoing network modernisation efforts.

In a statement, the operator said that 3G services would be switched off between 15 and 16 July in the regions of Aizkraukle, Jekabpils, Kuldiga and Ventspils. Customers in these areas have been advised on compatible mobile phones and SIM cards to ensure continued connectivity.

Aleksandrs Beļajevs, Head of the Radio Network Department at Bite Latvia, described the move as a “logical step” in the development of the company’s network. He noted that repurposing the 3G spectrum will help strengthen 4G and 5G services, delivering improved performance for users.

The complete shutdown of Bite’s 3G network is scheduled for spring 2026.

In preparation, Bite conducted a pilot switch-off in Salaspils this April to assess the impact on customers. The operator said the trial, along with the earlier phase-out in parts of Zemgale, was completed “successfully” with minimal disruption to users.

Bite is urging customers to upgrade their devices and SIM cards ahead of the full nationwide shutdown next year.
