Queen Elizabeth II had a very special event to attend after she carried out an important duty in Windsor on this day five years ago. The monarch carried out an outdoor ceremony to bestow a knighthood on the late Captain Tom Moore for his money-raising efforts during lockdown.
Captain Moore, who died in February 2021, was being honored for his heroic fundraising efforts that encouraged members of the public to donate millions of dollars to NHS charities amid the coronavirus pandemic in the UK. The late veteran, who was 100 years old at the time, was joined by his daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter for the ceremony that took place at the quadrangle at Windsor Castle.
However, moments after the ceremony, the Queen was the guest of honour at another special family occasion as her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice, married in a private service.
In order to not upstage the late Captain’s honour, pictures from Beatrice and Edoardo’s wedding were released the following day, July 18.
Taking to X, alongside a picture of the proud Captain and his family, the Royal Family’s post read: “Captain Sir Tom Moore stands proudly with his family in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, following his Investiture ceremony.
“Congratulations @captaintommoore”, followed by a clapping-hands emoji and a medal emoji.
The late Queen was pictured wearing a mint-hued jacket and matching dress – or skirt – with a flower-adorned hat for the special occasion at Windsor Castle.
The late royal was also photographed wearing the exact same ensemble to Beatrice’s wedding – as seen in a picture since released from the special moment.
Alongside a picture of the late Queen and Prince Philip next to Beatrice and Edoardo, the Royal Family’s Instagaram post read: “Congratulations to HRH Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi! The couple were married in a small private ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on Friday 17th July.”
