July the 17th, 2025 – Croatia is the most popular summer holiday destination for Slovenian tourists. The neighbouring Slovenes are flocking to the Croatian coast in droves.
As Morski writes, most of Slovenia’s residents will be travelling to the coast this summer, and Croatia remains the most popular tourist destination among Slovenian tourists. These are the results of an online survey conducted in mid-June by the Mediana Institute for Market and Media Research on the typical summer vacation plans of our next door neighbours.
More specifically, the aforementioned survey showed that 71 percent of respondents are planning to take a summer break, and almost a fifth of them have already paid for it. Slightly more than a quarter of them have chosen a destination, but haven’t yet paid, while a quarter have not yet finally decided where they will travel.
However, when it comes to destinations, Croatia is still convincingly ahead, being the most popular destination for Slovenian tourists. In fact, more than half of the respondents will spend the summer in various Croatian destinations. After this country, Slovenia is the most popular domestic destination, where every tenth respondent will spend their summer. Nearby Greece and neighbouring Italy also stand out among the more popular foreign destinations, while slightly more than a tenth of respondents said they are travelling “somewhere else”, which indicates a diversity of interests and possible more exotic choices.
“The results of the survey confirm the long-standing commitment of Slovenian guests to Croatia, for which we’re extremely grateful. Close proximity, excellent transport connections, a well-known and diverse offer, as well as long-standing mutual trust are the reasons why Croatia continues to be the number one choice for Slovenian tourists. We’re pleased that our neighbours continue to recognise the value of an authentic experience, as well as the safety and hospitality that Croatia continuously offers. Slovenia is one of Croatia’s most important source markets, so we’re going to continue to actively work on adapting the offer and promotion to their interests – from family and camping tourism, to active holidays and wine and gastronomy,” said Bruno Bonifačić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Representative Office in Slovenia.
When it comes to the duration of the breaks Slovenian tourists intend to take this summer, a third of the respondents are planning to spend 4 to 7 nights away, while a fifth are planning up to 10 nights. About a quarter of the respondents are planning longer holidays, lasting more than 10 nights. Among the respondents, the most preferred accommodation is in apartments, private rooms or holiday homes (38 percent), followed by hotels and motels (24 percent) and campsites (15 percent).
