When you see that An Post and Irish Customs are processing your international package.

  1. It’s amazing that something can be posted from China on Monday, arrive in Amsterdam on Tuesday, be cleared to leave for Dublin on Wednesday, arrive at the Dublin mail centre on Thursday then just sit idle for over a week before being delivered.

I posted a couple of games I sold on ebay a few years ago on the same day, one to Limerick, the other to Australia. The Australian one arrived first, within 3 days, how is that even possible I don’t know but conversely how did the Limerick one take 4 days? Is there a black hole somewhere? Do they hand inspect every parcel? Does it get distributed by donkey?

  2. Seriously, apart from Brexit, did something else change? I’ve had things come from outside the EU for years in the past and always used be quick delivery by An Post. But now, doesn’t matter if it’s from UK or elsewhere outside the EU but it’s hit and miss if I ever get the thing or if it end up on the never ending merry-go-around of Dublin Mail Centre.

I’ve lost two Hoodies to Dubin Mail Centre. I’m convinced they were stolen from there.

  3. I could be in the same boat in a few days or a week. Ordered an Android handheld for gaming emulation. Was about $136 which was a good deal as long as I don’t get shafted by Customs. Had the choice of DHL or a Chinese company called 4PX for shipping. Went for 4PX as the discussions forums I was on reckoned there was a much better chance of avoiding issues with them rather than going with DHL who would do everything by the book.

  4. They rarely post it to your door anymore, they just leave you a collection slip and you’ve to go collect it yourself. Which I would have done last week when it arrived in Ireland. More than 2 days in sorting/customs is unacceptable in the modern age. As always, Ireland play catch up with some twee approach to services.

  5. When I lived in Ireland I was selling my house in the US. I did the fastest shipping possible to get the contract to my lawyer. They told me 3 days. It took 2 weeks.

  6. I ordered a hundred Euros worth of steel pipes from Amazon UK that were held by customs for over 2 weeks and no one could tell me why they were being held(Irish Customs, Revenue, An Post, Amazon).

After tons of correspondence exchanged between each party the package just ended outside of my door randomly one day unannounced. Amazon refunded the items to me and I was allowed to keep them also. So I got 100 Euros worth of pipes for free which was great.

  7. My package cleared customs a few days ago. Won’t be delivered until the end of next week somehow.
